    Great season finale.....
Jonathan injured (dead?), Lex poisoned (I assume he'll survive), Chloe dead, Lana gone, Clark stuck in the wall, and jesus - that haircut.....
    .

    I'd put money on
the start of the next season including a bit of time travel to reverse some of these things.....

Yeah you feel something has to give because if you take that finale to its logical conclusion then there are only two cast members left in the series. Also why was Lionel doing what he was doing at the end?

I'd say Chloe is dead and no loss she was annoying and a dog
Lex looked a bit poisoned alright
All from the hand of butch looking Lionel

If this is the case and Clark is in the wall ( I'd have held onto the 16 year old meself ), then Lionel will get off

Jonathan cant die if they are keeping in line with the film themes, neither can Mrs Kent, Lex or Lana, although I was surprised when Chloe used Lois Lane's name earlier in the season which I don't understand

Great episode, at last the fukcer flew ( but I can't fly DUH!)

Clark has to return at some point so all I want to see is a bit of flying - not to the level of the greatest american hero.......

Great no Friends ever again, ER and Smallville finished until next season

   Take that back! Chloe's great!

I saw this episode a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed it, if only for the superb closing montage which shocked me.

The most obvious to undo it is to have reverse time travel but here's my great idea:

Chloe becomes Lois Lane! Chloe isn't killed by the explosion but severely disfigured. Lex, who survives in some form, feels severe guilt over this. He reconstructs her facially, using the techniques pioneered by Morgan Edge earlier on in the season so Chloe now looks different. She has to adopt a new name/guise though to hide her from Lionel, so she becomes Lois Lane, destined to finally get with Clark.

Clark is reborn in some form, lacking certain memories. It will explain why he doesn't recognise Chloe/Lois later on in his life and allow for new friction between Clark and Lana when Lana comes back for Chloe's "funeral". Clark will now be a firm believer in the responsibilities of his power, but with the added edge of this belief not allowing him to listen to anyone else, particularly Lex who will be his biggest naysayer.

Lionel will somehow get off but he's still got his crippling disease. I think the only possible way out of this is a pact with super-scientist played by Christopher Reeve. In return he'll provide more information on Clark.

Lex, poisoned, will now be more distant from Clark. It will possibly result in brain damage, making him more moody and more evil prone.

Pa Kent will recover well enough, without any real reprecussions.

... And so sayeth I. Let's see if I'm right!

Nice ideas, ixoy. I wonder if the whole "You will be reborn" thingy means he will become more powerful? What if he comes back with the ability to fly, and does that whole Superman: The Movie trick where he flies around the earth reversing time?

I've done some investigating and apparently at the announcement of the WB fall schedule a few weeks ago Tom Welling (Now with stupid beard!) who plays Clark Kent said that all the actors will be returning next season except for Samuel Jones III who played Pete, although he may make return appearences from time to time.

I'D say chloe eventually will become lois, as she hinted this earlier sayin that she has a cousin called lois lane who has no interest in journalism

My take on that is when the real Lois Lane realises that she's made a name for herself in the Daily Planet, she might use that credibility to build a career in journalism herself...

Lois Lane coming from Smallville doesn't make much sence to me...

Only started watching this 3 weeks ago then bang end of season
The main reason I didn't take it up is the series didn't make any sense like monkeyfudge says, for me anyhows after growing up watching the movie versions.

Like Tmb, I was thinking, now that Clark has learned how fly will he do the trick of reversing time as he did in the movie.

As for the character Pete leaving ...good riddance:p

Now I await E4 to repeat the whole series which they inevitably will do and watch an episode each day.

that spinning the world backwards thing annoys me more than anything else in the films...

well.. maybe not as much as in Superman IV, after Nuclear Man destroys a chunk of the Great Wall of China, Superman uses these blue lasers from his eyes to rebuild the wall... it didn't really make much sence...

One theory that I've heard about Smallville is that it's not really Durel that has been trying to control Clark, but General Zod.. it is afterall the same actor, good old Terrance Stamp... and that last shot of Clark looked alot like he was in the phantom zone...

I thought Lionel died. Were they not shaving his head for the electric chair???

But he hasn't died yet. The Magnificent Bastard won't be dead until I see him in his coffin. And even then I wouldn't believe it. Why? Because he's magnificent!

When the guy comes in to shave Lionel's head, Lionel says: "Do it." This implies that it is a choice that Lionel made. Not that he had to because he was going to be electrocuted. That's what I thought anyway.

lois lane who has no interest in journalism

    maybe cloe's death inspires her.

Is there anyone here who has an indept knowledge of the comics, who might shed some light on cloe and lois?

All I know from superman comics is that there is a Ma & Pa Kent, Lex & Lana, so they survive.

There is no Chloe in the comics.

But I believe they may have recently added her as a result of the popularity of the Smallville show.
