    Hey people

I've got a problem that is really pissing me off I just built an amd system with an nforce 2 mobo but when i power on it boots for about 3 seconds then stops and the mobo just keeps beeping i have reseated ram and cpu and double checked that it was seated correctly.

Anyone got any suggestions as to why my mobo is doing this?

The mobo manual should give you the meaning to the beep codes.Could be somthing else, did you try booting it with just the cpu(hfs) and ram installed or with no cards or cd/hdd's connected ?

    Good Luck

Is the motherboard touch any part of the cast (Do you have standoffs for the MB)

    It could be shorting out......

    Thanks JoePC

You said it boots for 3 seconds, so do you get the display starting, and see the initial POST?

Could it be a temperature warning?
Check your heatsink is fitted properly, ie. no stickers left on... thermal grease or pad or whatever's being used is ok.

Also try just booting with a bare bones setup of ram/cpu/gfx card... swap out any of these components if you have spares.

with the three seconds that youve check to see what type of BIOS youve got (it should pop up on the screen if the boot gets that far) When youve got the bios version check it out with the BIOS manufacturer. They should have an explanation for the beep codes

If it keeps beeping that sounds like a siren? Then it sounds like your CPU temp / cooling. Check to make sure the fan is spinning, the heatsink is seated correctly. (make sure one of your cables isint stickin into the heatsink fan)

If the motherboard is shorting off the case it will start for 3 secs and then power down.

What motherboard and what are the beeps like..........

As COL_LOKI says, is it a siren? I got my first siren today, and a message onscreen saying that the CPU fan wasnt running (but it was). Methinks my PSU isnt as good as I hoped (4 hard-drives, 4 fans, and lots of other stuff attached). Maybe your CPU isnt powerful enough? What PSU do you have?

I got a constant beeping myself, due to a molex connector on my gfx card not being plugged in tightly enough. (connector was a little loose, electricity arced over the pin and started to fry it). Even tho the fan on the card was still spinning up and it seemed to be working fine, so just cause something looks like its working properly dont take it as a given that it is. As said, make sure your heatsink and fan is fitted properly, boot from barebones to narrow down the cause etc etc.

Yeah it is a siren now that you mention it its an nforce 2 m7ncd mobo and xp2600 chip with qtec 300w atx psu, will try all of the suggestions above and post later thanks for all the replies!

Thats probably the least likely. It should have no problem with a ram/cpu/gfx card unless its faulty.

I'm running a 300w psu on the same setup, no problems at all.

Was only pointing out that cuz its a QTEC 300w psu. If people are right in saying it only delivers ~70% of stated wattage, it'll only be about the equivalent of a 210W psu from a good brand, or have I lost it completely? lol

Most of the shuttles don't have that and they are fine.

Dont mean to make you sound like an idiot :)
Hav eyou tried the keyboard in the other PS2 port? They may have been labelled/connected incorrectly and the mouse==keyboard and vice versa? :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,756 ✭✭✭I am MAN

Of course ive checked all of that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,243 ✭✭✭zoro

Just checking! It could've been the stupid thing that people never check :)

I'm at a loss though .. unless they were broken all the time - or you shorted your motherboard?? Do you have a USB keyboard you could try out?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,264 ✭✭✭RicardoSmith

The motherboard could be just flaky. It could be power spikes too. You are running everything including the modem through a surge protector?

i have a problem like that with my MSI Delta ilsr k7n2 mobo where on boot up, the keyboard and mouse would'nt work
seemingly its a fault with it, one of the things to try is to put the mouse into the keyboard socket and vice versa
there was another thing that you could try in the bios settings but i can't think of what it was again
you're best bet is to try forums about your mobo and see what other people have done

He's already tried that he said
there was another thing that you could try in the bios settings
It appears that he can't even get into those settings as the system doesnt recognise that he has no keyboard.

I thought that most BIOS's will alert you that there are no keyboards attached to the system during the POST? What messages does your BIOS give on POST?

i wasn't getting any problem either in the Bios, i'll have a look again for what the solution was
