    Help!!

My old hard drive has died, can anyone help with getting the data off it?

An alternative would be to get another one and cannabalise the PCB off it to make the old one work. In case anyone has one it is/was a Western Digital AC313000-00RTT2.

    Thanks

Depends what you mean by died. Did your OS die? Or do you get a prompt of "no bootable media found" or somesuch?

    It just won't do anything.
The power supply blew and with the new power supply everything works, except when the power supply is connected to the drive, in which case nothing works.

Does this give you any clues? I kind of suspect that it needs a new PCB????

Eh, no clue. Sounds bad to me :( What happens when you power on without the hard-drive?

Works fine, so a new drive will make the PC work well, the trouble is getting the data off the old drive.

I have heard in the past that wrapping up the drive well and putting it in a freezer for few hours can revive dead drives temporarily- sometimes long enough to backup data fom them.

I've never tried this however and don't guarantee anything, or take responsibility for any damage or data loss caused if you do try it.
