    i dont know any....

I have thought of setting one up, but i was talking with a guy who runs his own (guess what hes in sweden with a 10mbit line!) and he says that with like an avarage of 3000 people on his hub the bandwidth generaly is very high and at times his connection can get slow..

So my dsl .5meg line wouldnt be able to coap, unless i move to waterford and get that sweet 9meg pack off cablesurf!!

    *dumb question* Whats dc++?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 816 ✭✭✭Cryos

its a file sharing system based on connecting to user hubs instead of say Kazaa central hub, you connect to someone elses computer along with say another person you search for an file and it will tell you who has that file along with how many slots.

Its much better than any other P2P file sharing program, its quicker in IMO aswell... goto http://www.download.com and type dc++ in thesearch and download it there and try for yourself.

    dumb question

I dont mean setting up a public hub just for boards mebers of someting keep the adress private and only tell those u want to connect. that should keep your connection fast with a few users only. im on 512k aswell btw

Well... from past experience, you should easily be able to run a 60 person hub with only 12kb/sec upload.

So with 512kbps upload speed, IBB would be ideal for up to about 300 people, maybe more, depending on how many people are chatting/searching at the same time.

Private one... hmm i suppose, you can get your dns off http://www.no-ip.com aswell for free so irlprivate.no-ip.com:80 would be good.

bandwith still an major issue i think tho

I saw this in your sig the other day mfruit and joined but there was only like 4 people on :(

Great idea - there used to be one called Dubhub which was great but unfortunatly went down due to lack of interest.

i have to RMA my harddrive, so if anyone is interested in continuing to host the hub while that happens, PM me here. If not, it looks like the hub will be down for good.

    Just enter :

    irishdcplusplus.no-ip.org:2000 For PaddyLand

Yeah - I understand now - I entered the old address of irishdcplusplus.no-ip.org:411
and it dropped me into Dr Who land - where i was told i was about to get
kicked for not sharing DrWho stuff.

There is a message when you log into irishdcplusplus.no-ip.org:411 which says rather unhelpfully...
"This is not an Irish Hub..... If you have arrived here expecting Guinness and Craic turn back now!!!!"

I had to ask the Hub operator himself not to kick me and where the Irish one went.

I was just suggesting we ask for it to be a little more helpful like...
"This is not an Irish Hub..... Guinness and Craic is now on Port 2000" or something.
