Backing up a scratched DVD

This is a similar thread to the one about cd errors only it's happening when I'm trying to backup a DVD. I'm trying to use DVDDecrypter to backup 'Lost In Translation'. I've noticed 3 dots/scratches on the DVD surface. It took about 2 hours to get to 47% of writing an image of the DVD to my HD last night but I gave up and went to bed. Every 2 mins, I'd get an error and the option to 'Abort, Retry or ignore' so I always chose 'Retry' and after pressing that a few times, it would start reading the DVD again but this happened alot. It's a DVD I really want to backup. Any suggestions?

There are polishers/buffers you can get to restore the quality of the surface of CDs/DVDs. That may be of use to you.

Is this the only DVD it happens with? Try rip a known good DVD to verify your player isn't fecked. :)

My DVDRW is not fecked. NEC 2500A bought about 3 months ago. Have backed up a few DVD's in the last 2 weeks. It's the DVD that's causing the problems with it's scratches. Will try a lint free cloth on it tonight. Any programs that can help me out?

Rent it out from Xtra Vision and "back" that copy up. If anyone asks you already own the original..... sorted.

if you do a lot of discs you could try one of those "disc wizard" things from dixons that supposedly repairs scratches in discs. havent tried em myself.

The NEC 2500A doesn't exactly have a wealth of ripping features, To stop it annoying you, go to settings->I/O and tick "Ignore read errors"

Can't guarantee that the final product will work though...

Will try that. There's also an option in DVDDecrypter in the general settings to 'detect mastering errors' so I'll tick that and see what happens
Hope this would help you !
Will try that if I can't get DVDDecrypter or DVD Shrink to do it.
