I've two Samsung spinpoint SATA 160GB, 8MB cache drives in RAID0 that I'm very happy with. Why are you getting 2*40GB? Is it for RAID? Why not get bigger drives?

Yea would definetly agree with unkel, smaller drives work out more expensive in the long run. I also have the samsungs 160gb 8mb Raid0 and im very happy aswell........ decent enought performance and there very quiet (especially when compared with the WD's).

If you only need a small ammount of space for whatever your running and need the extra one for backup then that makes sence.......... otherwise get bigger ones.

I have 2 IBM 120gb GXPs and they're motoring along happily. Buying a big HD with a 8mb cache is a good idea, rather than buying 2 small crap ones.

If you can afford it later, get a second one and raid them (if they're the same model)

BY the way, if you see harddrives with 16mb cache, don't bother paying extra for them. They don't give much of a performance boost at all. 8MB is more than enough for current HD's.

I just want cheapest, smallest drive, that will last me for some time

I have decided I'll go with Seagate for speed
and Maxtor for the slower computer

The samsung drives seem to be the quietest around at the moment
