I'm looking for decent tutorial on mod_rewrite... specifically about using a text file to map ID's to directories... e.g. product.php?ID=12345 would be come products/software/windows/ where all the ID's and mapped directories, can be stored in a txt file and updated dynamically. http://www.freebsddiary.org/rewrite.php is a reasonable starting point.

Put the rewriting rules in .htaccess and update that "dynamically" in whatever way suits you best.
