    Hi,

I got FarCry of a mate. Put it into the cd tray and it wouldn't read properly atal.. I could hear it chugging away slowly trying read, but no luck. However, when i put a different cd in, it read no problem. Any ideas why. Is it something to do with my system having problems with the cd format or something?...And I was so looking forward to playing that game!! :-(

I'd say its just your CD drive. What type is it?
    i.e. CD-ROM, CD-R, DVD, DVD-R?
If its old it could be knackered, does it have any problem with other cd's?
Maybe Far Cry has some crappy copy protection, i don't know.

Is the CD the original CD or is it a copy? If it's the original it may be scratched; try cleaning it with a lint free cloth. If it's a copy, well there a variety of reasons why it might not work, but the best solution is to go out and buy the game.

Legit copies of far cry won't work on some CD Rom drives because of the ****ty copy protection system it uses. I think they might have a patch out to resolve this.

Also, i had another thought, if it is an original, and slightly scracthed, copy it, and try that, may work, or, yet again, use the cd in whatever computer it works in, and share that cd drive across the network, would that work, or yet again rip the cd drive out of a computer that it works in and install it.

Got the demo of Far Cry yesterday, i was very impressed!

I suppose I should have given more info...

It's an original cd..not a copy...no visible scratches on it...gave it a good clean anyway..

It's for my home oc, so don't have any option of shared a cd-rom drive (?)

    Oh..and it's a dvd drive actually...make a difference??...it reads other disks perfectly...just bad luck maybe???

I think Stephen answered the question, it uses crappy copy protection. What i would do is.
1.Make a copy of the original cd.
This will take a while, but it should work.
    2. Get a crack for it and install on your system.

Now, i know, i said 'crack', and thats wrong and all, but if its only you using the legit copy, then it shouldn't be illegal. It's so you can get round the inadequacies of the copy protection. A patch may work, but i don't know anything about it. If you need help with anything send me a PM.

(at the risk of geting shouted at...). Didn't farcry get released as a single DVD disc? Therefore it won't read in a CD drive.

EDIT: Phew, i was right... clicky linky

I find DVD drives to be crap. I was wondering when games would be DVD only. The DEMO was 500MB or so.

Oops, i just noticed that he does have a DVD drive, so my previous post was actually a bit stupid... I think i'll leave it there for comedy value though :p
I find DVD drives to be crap

Really? So i take it you don't watch DVD's then. Still using the old VHS system then? What is so crap about DVD drives anyway. I always thought they were quite usefull. Maybe thats just me...

Your misunderstanding me, but I was being unclear. I just mean DVD drives, as in DVD ROM drives are crap at reading discs, well i should say CD's, as compared to CD drives in my expierence, but what i'm saying has no value as you mentioned Far Cry is on a DVD.
DVD+/- R/W are better than DVD-ROM's. I've nothing against DVD's, Have about 4 bits of hardware in my room that read DVD's, and i have a DVD writer in this box. :D
Anyway, we're way off the topic.
Let us know how you get on TemplarBarna.

    I highly recommend you do :) .

I bought it in PC World for €35 which I didnt think was bad considering some games enter high-street stores @ €50+

€35, nice one. I may be tempted to actually pay for a game. Saw it for €40 in xtra vision, and i thought it was good. Hmmm, i'll have to scap some money somewhere. It'll be a long time before i get paid. I can see my self dipping into my Credit Union account :)
    Cheap bastard, i know.

at 35 euro i'll probablt buy it. I assumed it would come out at 50-60eur like most new games do. Maybe they're finally copping on to the fact that people will prefer to pirate a new 60eur game than buy it, and that by reducing price, they increase sales...
