Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding etc are both Atlantic Soul- so definately buy a good compilation (as recommended) to got some more names for your shopping list. Motown of course- there are some good the "best of" and "hard to find" compilations. If you are looking for something less commercial you should look out for some Northern Soul compilations- which is basically rarer soul music- (you'd never hear it on lite fm) that was popular in N. England during the Motown boom. http://www.soulsurfin.currantbun.com/ has some great compilations for sale. Another good comp. album is Aphrodisiac which has a lot of stuff you won't always get on a regular soul album-- William deVaughan, The Delphonics and the O-Jays. If soul is your thing you should maybe try to hear some funk and classic RnB too. The likes of James Brown, Sly and the Family Stone- get a compo album to give you names. VH1.com to a good classic RnB station.
