Cannot read from CF card

    Lo All,

After a great Sisters Wedding last weekend, I went home with my Canon A70 digital Camera which its 64mb card was 85% full and decided to upload the pics to PC.

One thing which did happen during the night was, the batteries depleated and the camera attempted to shut itself down but didnt get the lens retracted fully. So I used a loan of another persons batteries to shut it down.

The camera now with fully charged batteries will not read the card. In the information screen it does shown 57meg of 64meg used. I took another pic and it can now read that pic, but nothing previous.

Just wondering is there some sort of software I could try to recover my old pics. I know they are on there, but probably have a bad last file or something which the camera cannot understand. I would be willing to buy a CF card reader (either PC card for laptop or USB) to see if that helps.

    Cheers in advance,
P.s. hope its the real forum :)
    James.

You could try software such as the following. Maybe an internet search may give reviews. Personally I cant comment on them

If you prefer not to buy software my brother used the following UK company with full success in getting his images back (at a cost!)
    http://www.flash-card-recovery.co.uk
(changed its name to Boomerangphoto.com recently)

    Thanks for info,
Just to let ye know, got the images back.
I had to buy a CF USB card reader (5eur so not bad) because the Canon A70 would not mount as a drive letter, which the recovery software uses.

All recovery software actually worked by scanning the sectors and finding start of file and end of filemarkers. Pretty good,

    Thanks
