    Hi all,

I recently had a quote done for some work to my car (Audi).

I was looking to have a new clutch fitted to the car.

The first place I went was MSL (www.msl.ie) as I had had some work done there in the past and it is more convenient for me.

The quote they gave me was €1,200.00 which included 9 Hours labour.

I then got some other quotes (all of which were cheaper). The one that I think I am going to go with is from Belgard Motors. They quoted me €710.00 for the same work but they are only stating 4 Hours Labour.

Why does it take MSL mechanics any extra 5 hours to do the same job??? Belgard are a highly reputable dealership so its not like they would not be doing as good a job.

Just another example of how shopping around can make such a big difference.

I had a little tip in my car recently.
I went to a main dealer where I bought the car and they said new parts and labour would cost 3000 euro and that the car wasnt worth fixing.
I went to a used car parts dealer in my town, bought a new front bumper, headlight and front wing ,all in immaculate condition for 150 euro.
Went to a local crash repair guy and gave him 300 euro to put on the parts ,spray it and do a bit of panel beating on the bonnet.
Total cost 450 euro and it looks superb.

so many garages are turning away work 'cause they are overbooked so they don't care if their rediculous prices turn people off. They are making a lot of money so screw the man on the street. Same goes for nearly all aspects of business in Ireland. At the end of the day it all comes down to

    1. Lack of Competition
    2. Lack of Transparency
    3. Consumers unwillingness to shop around
    4. No regulation worth talking about
    5. Pure greed

I'd also vouch for Belgard Motors, I've bought a couple of cars from them and the service I've received has never been anything but top class.

If you go to a main dealer/big chain garage you will get skinned, simple as that. Get some reccomendations for good independent mechanics, there are some out there that are competent honest and cheap.
