    hello,
I was just wondering if there was any advantage in using a cd image i.e. iso, instead of just copying the files, when copying cds.
Thus iso copy any "hidden" information on the cd, if there is any??
Or is iso just a convenient way of copying a whole cd??

    thanks,
    Bostitch.

Some games have copy protection which can only be reproduced by using an ISO or the like. Also, MS Office CDs seem to work out a lot bigger than 650Mb when the files are copied to a hard drive. And you could say you're wasting less clusters on your hard drive by keeping one big file instead of a load of samll ones...:D

You're also more likely to preserve the bootability of a CD (say an OS install CD) if you rip/burn it as an iso.

    Description

ISO Recorder Power Toy is a UI component that allows to use CD-Recording capabilities of Windows XP® to record ISO images and copy CD to CD – a piece of functionality missing in Windows XP®

The ISO Recorder itself does not record CDs but instead uses existing OS features. Some of the interfaces it uses are not fully documented by Microsoft and as such are subject to change in the future.

This software works on Windows XP only . It was tested with retail build of Windows XP (Home and Professional)

ISO Recorder can be downloaded at http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder/download.asp

A command-line version (more robust, but with limited functionality) can be downloaded at http://members.home.net/alexfein/bin/CDRecorder.exe

You can also get an ISO reader/viewer to look at and copy files from inside the .ISO file eg: ISObuster www.smart-projects.net
IsoBuster is a powerful utility with many uses.
The two most popular and used functions are :

#1 CD and DVD Data Recovery
#2 Opening (and allowing to extract data from) Image files

    also emulates cd protection schemes..

so handy for mounting any image format ,no need to burn to get a drive letter view of an image structure

brillant app, better then is commercial alternative virtual cd-rom
