    how big do the dat files be and is there a place to simply download the dat itself and install it myself?

    Just go to mcafee.com and click on the downloads link! You should be able to browse to it from there!

    That's where I get them from anyway! The superDAT is usually about 5MB

    the superdat is a grand way to update, you could just set the Virusscan console to automatically update every week from the default NAI ftp server. I download the superdats from
