I got a new hard disk and i'm going to partition it for windows and mandrake linux.
How much/little would i need to run mandrake and some apps?
I'm omly new to mandrake so i wont be installing to much (don't even know how yet! have another tread for that) untill i get the hang of the whole os.
I got a 160gig hd so there's plenty to play with for the moment

You've loads of room. I used to get by with just 5 gig partition. But as you've lots of room anything above that really.

Depends what apps you'll be usin etc. Could give it a nice round 20 just to be safe. That's the entire size of my hard disk :(

Ps when installing be sure to install devel stuff like C and C++ and gcc. Needed to compile programs.

i had my linux installed on a 20 gig partitiona nd 40 gigs for media, but i recently bought a 200 gig drive for media. so im giving the full origional disk to linux now (60 gigs)

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
    /dev/hdb4 18G 12G 4.9G 71% /
    /dev/hdb1 39G 31G 6.0G 84% /usr
    /dev/hda2 169G 103G 58G 65% /main

i may install windows on hda1 sometime, its a 30 gig partition.

    not sure yet.
Basically for me though 20 gigs for linux definately wasnt enough, although i do tend to be a bit reckless when it comes to installing stuff.
