I don't think there's anywhere you can get it, I went looking before. What's wrong with ordering off the net? I believe it's cheapest off www.amazon.co.uk, although www.komplett.ie have ordered some cheap ones from the US. Just borrow someone's credit card or something.

whats wrong with buying it online

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,985 ✭✭✭big_moe

nothing wrong with buying online. i buy small stuff like cd's and dvd's online but with expensive items i would rather buy in a shop so if anything goes wrong you can bring it into the shop.i bought a pc online and when it broke down i didnt get good service when i tried to return it.

offline Irish stores are the biggest rip off compared to online retailers. komplett can be trusted to handle any problems...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

and it's for that very reason I get all my own hardware from online sources such as komplett. I'd rather pay komplett or elara for supplying it than pay the likes of Compustore anything up to twice the online price for the exact same item.

It's nice to have a bit of a touchy feely with the item before you buy it, but I wouldn't pay a premium for that benefit when I already know how it works and what it does.

strange enough...Peats seems the cheapest for a change! Peats! Of all people!

    Peats - €399 || Komplett - €458.59

Jeez, didnt notice that... I'll have to check my finances.. Could be a good time to get a 40gig model for the price of a 20gig.

he did just ask about the 20gb drive after all
the ihp-140, buying from the usa can work out at only 300euro - super sweet
    if only they would ship!!!

    Ahh micro,
some places do delivery to over here (i think amazon.com?)
but you can end up paying vat comin through customs?
And more another bit for delivery,
customs could be 40euro?!? and delivery 30euro??!!?
    so that would be 370.
    Anyway just saying.

Yea sorry, just saw that he was talking about 20gig, but everyone was quoting prices that i had in my head i was going to pay for a 40gig one!

Anyway, hope my info has been helpfully, me is building up to buying one of these bad boys!

just sifting through this forum about to ask a question about phones and saw your topic. I was researching DAP's for about 5 months before I bought one (big money for me, but something I really wanted) Compared them all, ipod, zen, karma etc etc. The iRiver IHP series is by far the best. And when the new firmware arrives (one due for May and another in June) they are going to be miles higher, than they already are, to the competition. Yes, the H is the same as the IHP.

The cheapest place to get is is Harvey Norman (the 140 I'm talking about) €459.99. It's in Swords, you take the 42 (or something like that) from eden quay, where all the busses line up on the opposite side though.

It works out cheaper to get it there than it does to get it from any UK site when you take shipping into account. However, amazon.com are the cheapest. Unfortunately they don't deliver it to Ireland. They had it for $419 with a $50 mail in rebate, worked out at about €300. You could only take advantage of that if you went to us though.

Peats are dearer than Harvey. €499 for 140.

If you don't need the 40G, which you may not, then the cheapest place for you to get the 120, as far as I know (could be different now) is amazon.co.uk.

It's also the security of knowing that if anything happens to it, you can just go back to Harvey, things will be allot more complicated if you buy from amazon.com/uk

    Take it from me,
The IHP/H 140/120/110 is the best of what's around.

The best place to buy the
    H140 = Harvey Normans, Swords/Dundalk
H120 = Amazon.co.uk (you may want to check yourself as I haven't researched the 120 for a while)

or... you could wait for the H-300 series.

20/40 GB, USB on the Go hook up digi cam and transfer files without pc, view images with the Colour screen. All features that the H-140 has. Due out within the next month or two. Probably be around €550????? guess.

It may please you to learn that PC Pro (in the July '04 edition I'm holding in my paw here) review 18 MP3 players (9 Flash-based, 9 HDD-based) and of these, the iRiver iHP-100 series comes out top of the Hard disk-based ones, and the iRiver iFP-500 series came out on top of the Flash players; the iHP series comes out on the top overall.

Even better, the IRiver iHP series machine they tested ran for 24h on a single charge, compared with 13h20 for the Creative MuVo2 and 9h15 for the iPod (oh, and 9h for the iPod mini)

The last line of their review of the iHP series: "If the world of MP3 players ever needed a king, this is it"

Then again, you probably knew that :D

Currently the bones of €400 here and they claim delivery to other EU countries is £5 here .
Granted that the IHP-140 currently is out of stock on that website and the price may well be revised upwards when the new stock arrives next Monday.

That'd make it.. what? the best part of about €410 once delivery is taken into account. Actually, I just added one to my basket on that site and with delivery it came to €398.66. I'm not trying to be smart or anything, it's just cheaper there than in Ireland...

My post above was regarding the H series. iRiver as an MP3 player company is by far the "king" SlimX etc is great, they even have a new flash player coming out (in a month or two I'd say) with a built in camera and colour screen. Nice!!

There are complaint about slow firmware releasing. But it will be worth the wait.

Proud owner of IHP140 bought in Harvey Normans for just under 430 euro.
Sound is fantastic, navigating a joy after a few dodgy go's, it's kinky...remote is cool and soo soo handy. fm radio excellent. Battery life great. On the fly recording to mp3/wav excellent, doesn't miss a beat.
HD portable storage by USB2 is great also.

    I love it.

Graham is the guy to see in Harvey's

    ?!?!?!
The cheapest place to buy the 40gig iriver mp3 player in ireland is over the web.
Check each of the links i have in my previous post.

Delivery is like 5sterling with them if not free!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Nice! Go for that, I got mine about 2 months ago in Harvey for 459. If it's 430 get it there, now! Ok, so you could save €20 by getting it from uk (I did my buying 2 months ago, prices have changed, it is now cheaper to get in UK online) but for security I would pay the extra €20 to get it from an Irish retail shop. If it's still for €430 there is no doubt you should buy it there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

Where exactly is the Harvey's in Swords? Is it hidden away or easily found? Bear in mind that I know suburban Dublin as well as I read arabic.

I'll probably be heading up to Dublin on Tuesday so while I'm up there I thought I might as well pick up an ihp-140 if theyre still at 430.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

I have an ihp-120 how do i copy on the fly recording to mp3/wav? I lost my manual! :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

harvey is in aerside retail park (spelling?) thats about as much as i know, I got the bus, asked some guy where it was, he told me, i got off, got back on, ended up back in dublin. cheesdude, go to www.iriver.com and download the manual. but you basically just connect audio device to it, select ext mic, choose bitrate etc and press record (you must be in record section to do this:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

cheers.. Might give Graham up there a buzz today to see if they still have them or not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

just thought I'd post an update. Called into Harveys in Swords today on my way home and they had one ihp-140 in stock at a price of €499. I said "I was talking to a guy that said he bought one in here for €430, he told me to come in and take a look", the blank look on his face when I said that more or less summed it up. Their 20gig model was €389 iirc.

So I'm going to order one from advancedmp3players.co.uk for €391.40. Cheapest available as far as I can see.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,265 ✭✭✭MiCr0

    did you order it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

yeah, ordered it last Wednesday evening and got it this morning. Paid €398.66 (incl. delivery), or to put that into perspective, just over €100 less than Harvey Norman are selling it for. The little black box o' tricks is charging as I type, can't wait to start loading stuff onto it.

advancedmp3players are brilliant to deal with. I had one query (via email) and it was answered within 10 minutes . Thanks for providing the links Micro & toil :)
