    Hey all,
I bought an old p3 comp a while ago, just as a secondary for doing college stuff on, taking apart, whatever. Well a few days ago i turned it on only to see the cd rom has vanished from the my computer window. The drive is getting power, all lights are on, you can put in a cd and it spins up, however nothing happens! Ive taken the drive out, checked connections etc etc, and thats all good. Thought it might be something to do with bogey entries in config.sys or autoexec.bat so renamed those files, restarted, still no joy. Any ideas?

Open regedit, and edit the following keys:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\000x

Click on the sub-folders 0001 and 0002. Among the keys inside those folders, you'll find MasterIdDataChecksum and SlaveIdDataChecksum.

Double-click the key(s), and delete the value assigned to it.

    Reboot.

Someone Please Stick it! because many people have the same problem very often!
