    You have to be within 50k of the mast.

    I'm in julianstown in Co. Meath, any love? i rang one wireless bb company and was told september when it goes online but that was ages ago.

    With most wireless operators you have to be within 5KM of the mast. Not 50k or 500metres. Caliden is way off, wireless broadband has nothing to do with your neibhours. All you need is to be within 5km of the providers basestation (as the crow flies) and also you need a line of sight to the station (usually).

    If you live in the back of beyonds, you will probably not be covered by wireless, and you'll have to go with satellite if you can't get DSL.

    Satellite ain't great though, but give digiweb a quick ring. I think they are the best for satellite in ireland.

    According to this irishwan thread here theres someone else interested in getting internet via wireless means (unless of course thats your post?).

    If you havnt posted there before, then i would suggest that you do so, giving details of your location and interest in getting on the network.

    @Ronano:
    Node map for meath wan
    If you havnt already done so, you can post your location/interest

    but how many people can afford to pay 500eur installation fee? Not many... And combine that with the fact that you also need to keep the 56k modem for uploading, it makes it more like crapband than broadband.

    Unless you pay more for the two way satellite... and even with that, its impossible to game on it.

    Im 35k away from the mast and im getting it, and the company told me that the mast has a range of 50k.
    It isnt the best for gaming anyway, i play on 56k. When i get wireless it will be a 1.2mb line, and i should have a ping on a decent server of around 50-80.

    i presume by 35k, you mean thirty-five kilometres... and i sincerely doubt there is any operator out there that has that kind of range...

    And a ping of 50-80 in-game is pretty much standard on ADSL, depending on server. I know with my wireless from IBB i can get pings as low as 12ms (Averaging 12ms, going as low as 9ms...) in a certain UK server. Thats about one quarter of the average ADSL ping, maybe less...
