Just wondering has anyone here downloaded in this from microsoft and installed it? It's free, but still in beta. Any issues with it. Or did it all run smoothly for you?

Also any ideas on when 64bit directx drivers will be available?

I've downloaded it but havent installed it. When I first downloaded it, there was a lot of hardware drivers that do not support it yet at the time. Now you can get all the drivers including ATI catalyst for the 64bit. Thing is there's still not a lot of software that supports it yet so even if you use it, its still be running 32bit rather than 64bit. I'll probably wait till there's more support for the 64bit before going down that road.

i downloaded and installed it - worst mistake of my life. It wiped everything but didnt install the os at all - so i was left with a nice paperweight box. Eventually got dos on it then reinstalled xp pro. Take my advise leave it for the gm version. It will still be buggy but more likely to install.

Installed and ran perfectly smoothly for me. Have it dual booting with 32 bit xp pro.
Managed to get all drivers except network device working.
I have a KV8 MAX3 and VIA have 64 bit drivers (for sound, sata raid etc). as well as silicon image. That gets most of the essentials up and running.
Haven't really done much testing/benchmarking on it. Ran a few 64 bit apps but their hard enough to come by.
I haven't noticed any significant performance increase in normal use. Just a slightly faster boot time.

long story but the install disk i had of xp wasnt bootable so i needed to have something on.

I know that makes it sound like i should not be allowed near a pc as long as i live BUT i was stuck in work at the time and the only thing close to an os i had was a really old ms dos disk set

also i know this reply is about a year old but ive been busy :D
