I play aussie rules in the British Australian Football League (www.barfl.co.uk), for the North London Lions (www.aussierules.co.uk)..

Overall, its the most fun sport I have ever taken part in, as it does not have this nancy "I fall over like I have been shot if you bump into me" element that soccer has - and its less start stop than rugby..

Socially its great fun, as everyone playing it has a few beers together after games and indeed training!

Cant wait for the international rules series :)

There is an Irish league if you fancy playing - http://www.arfli.com/ I have never played in the Irish league so cant talk for its standard, as I only discovered the game since I came over here, but hope to one day get a few games for one of the teams 'at home!'

cheers for that mate, but think i'll stick to watching. brings back nice memories!
the international rules should be fun. they dont put much pass on it in Oz from what i saw when we were there. i was offered a ticket for the games last year but was coming home before they started. was raging because we had just missed the last one in Ireland too! watching it in Melbourne was a good laugh. loads of irish out.

Aussie rules isnt big at all in Sydney, which is kind of expected since there are very few teams in the league from outside Victoria. they prefer their rugby up in NSW.

its definately a joy to watch and i'll always have the memory of a Collingwood fan swearing and blinding at both teams at one of the games......she was 67 years old!!!
    brilliant fun.

do you get many australians in the British league?

every club in the british league has 2 teams, a first team "premiership" and a second team, "confrence"

The first team has to have half the blokes on the ground from the EU, and the second team only needs 2 EU blokes on the ground at any one time..

There is no shortage of Aussies/Kiwi's and Safa's over here, millions of the b4st4rds :D

Essendon appear to be coming back into it after a really crappy start to the season. GOE BOMBERS! :D

cant see the saints 'doing an arsenal' one or two injuries to key blokes and they would be in trouble IMHO..

More of you should actually play the game - its a great laugh on the field, and in the bar afterwards :)

I was at the first game of the season back in 2000 with an aussie frien and decided to folllow his team from then on. Just so happened to be the Bombers in the first game of the, only beaten by the dogs season. Classic, followed it ever since, been to every series of compromise rules since I been back too.

    Bombers 5th now.

See the bombers fly up... up.....

    yeah the memories
