Sleepwalking

Okay, so I used to go sleepwalking now and again when I was little but over the last few years, it seems to have become a lot more frequent.

In fact, this year has been probably the most amount of times that I have ever gone sleepwalking (and talking). And it's drivin me mental!!!!!! Last night I had to call security coz I'd actually locked myself outta my room by heading off down the hall with my pillow!

I've done it twice this week - a few nights ago I opened my door & was talkin to one of the lads that lives with me for ten minutes apparantly! (He said I was talking jibberish though & couldn't understand me at all - which is usually the case if I'm talkin while I'm asleep). So I put up loads of obstacles by my bedroom door to prevent me from going sleepwalking, but that kinda failed to work last night!

Anyone here have similar experiences on this, and does it just go away? I thought it was something only children did and then it'd go away as you get older, but I'm 21 now sooo ....

Eh, OK, this really is one of those "go to doctor"-type posts. While not common, some adults do sleep walk / talk / eat (I was able to eat most of a packet of biscuits without looking on several occassions), etc.

How are you generally? Are you suffering from stress? Are you sleeping?

Regarding the actual sleep walking, are you a danger to yourself?

Oh I sleep great, I go into a deep sleep usually. I'm grand, not really under any stress (although was under a bit a while ago coz of college), but I'm not feeling well at the moment (the 'flu), and that seems to kinda trigger the walking too.

Am I a danger to myself? As in if I walked, could I fall down a flight of stairs or something, is that what you mean? Well there are stairs outside the apartment door, but I've never gone out the door before, only my bedroom door. Then again, I hadn't gone further than my own bedroom door til last night either!!

I have had experience of this from over doing it on the alcohol and pot. I'd be getting up in the middle of the night and talking b****x to my mates, they thought it was hilarious. All sorts of substances can make this occur, I Learned by not going overboard on them it was a lot less likely to occur.

if its not that i'd recommend seeing the doctor, i've heard that this condition can be alot more dangerous amongst adults than children.

Nah tiz not substance related coz I don't drink, don't smoke & don't do drugs either.

I only ever do it when i've been drinking so it's not really sleep walking at all. Although some might say it is...

i always talk in my sleep but sleep walking no i think you can go to specialist for this kinda thing and you are a danger to yourself you could turn on a cooker or use a knife or fall down the stairs

my sisters fella used to do that a lot and would often urinate in the clothes hamper in their bedroom!

he went to the doctor who actually recommended hypnotherapy. seems to have worked cos my sisters clothes dont have yellow patches anymore!

my little brother used to sleepwalk from time to time, a few years ago he went sleepwalking, came into my room and almost took a leak in the cupboard :( i realised in time and talked him out of it (he thought he was in the bathroom), and rerouted him. he seems to have grown out of it though, hasnt had any problems for a while. maybe hypnotherapy will help? or else devise a much better obstacle course to get out of your room.

Put your room keys on a chain and tie them around your ankle ;)

That could be an idea to help me get back into my room but I need to stop the walking first though :)

    Hello,
Would like to say first that I am not in the medical profession and you should probably most likely seek professional medical advice on this for a more permanent solution but I have heard that if you put like a basin of water or a wet towel on the floor by your bed (the side that you get out) as soon as the soles of your feet hit the water/wet towel you will wake up.

BUT this apparently isnt the best way to be woken up and can cause a bit of shock (what/where/who am I?.

So do it at your own risk if you want to see if it works.
