MMDS STB not working

    Hi All,

I wonder if anyone can help me - I have NTL MMDS installed (in Sitting room and bedroom with seperate set top boxes) for about 2 months

Went away for a weekend and when I returned box will not turn on...all three green lights at front of box are lit at the same time, however, neither the remote or the buttons on the STB will change the status of the box - it looks like it is hanging or is locked

Anyone any ideas - I have tried unplugging power to set top box and checked all connections but to no avail

I haven't called NTL yet as I wanted to get any info I could first, and I don't want to be charged for an engineer call out and worse still wait a month before anyone showed up !!

Any help / experimental ideas welcome

    Cheers

    Setanta

sounds like yo have done all you can !!

ring ntl to get an engineer to check it out. you won't be charged for the service call!

btw - would you happen to be on a communal aerial or using a neighbours aerial ? neighbours perhaps went on holidays and turned it off or something silly like that!

All green lights lit on the front display usually indicates a software upgrade. Switch on your boxes, and leave them alone for about 15 minutes. The chances are, ntl sent out new software versions while you were away, so your boxes are only receiving them now. That is why you should leave them on at all times - so they will upgrade at night. So plug them in, and leave them alone for about 15 mins. See if any changes occur.

    Hi Guys,

    Thanks for the replies

Mini - I'm not on a communal aerial; have me own so thats not it

PK - the problem I have is that the power button on the STB remote has no effect ie
it's not that when I turn on the box the three lights come on, it's that the three lights are on and the power button doesn't work, has no effect on the status

The funny thing is my other STB is working fine

Looks like I need to make that call

    Thanks for the help anyway

    Cheers

Its a problem with the main chip inside your box. Get on to ntl and they will replace it for you. I came across this problem before, only once mind you
