A company (www.telestunt.ie, formerly www.budgetcom.ie) offers local(!) rates to most Western countries and 33cents/min to all others (including mobiles abroad). No set up etc, just dial the access
    number

I was recommended this link and it looks good! But is it too good to be true...has anybody used them before??

Eh, how dodgy do YOU look, first ever post on boards and you're plugging a telecoms company, lol.

I'm not associated with the company eth_0
But like you I'm very wary of these type of companies..
Which is way I was asking if anybody had used them?

yap, been listening to boards for long time(which I find very useful)..this is my first time to post!

The post looks dodgy and so does the site. 33 cents per minute is more expensive than certain cards you can get these days.

    Telestunt!!!!

You'd want to be some fool to put the word 'stunt' in your company name!!
Why not just call it Telescam :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,196 ✭✭✭deadl0ck

Yeah - I use Varcom, something like 7c per minute or less to most European countries

Sure its cheaper with EsatBT! Oh and snce if you lcick on contact us and they have no phone number and no way to contact them other than sign up to newsletter email.. i think it stinks of dodginess.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 190 ✭✭pan

Looking further into it...the lack of contact details is too dodgy for home phone use.
But worked ok in office :)
Probably should ignore this thread..unless more info come to light

yea, I got the varcom leaflets in the door! But have been using swiftcall cards to far.

    Hi!
I personally use Vartec since a year or so and I didn't see anything cheaper so far for the countries I'm interested in (Italy mainly).

Before I post this, I am no way affiliated to this crowd, I tend to ring the US a crap load, and this is the best deal I've seen. Saw it on aertel, checked the rte/aertel website, and heres the deal:

    FREE INTERNATIONAL CALLS!!

    UK - EUROPE - USA - AUSTRALIA - ASIA

THIS SERVICE WORKS FROM ALL LANDLINES,
    MOBILES & PAYPHONES.

    SIMPLY DIAL 0818 24 25 26 AND YOU WILL
    BE PROMPTED FOR THE INTERNATIONAL
    NUMBER YOU WISH TO CALL

THE ONLY CHARGE IS FOR CALLING
    0818 24 25 26 WHICH IS 4.9C/MIN OFF
    PEAK & WEEKENDS & 8.17C/MIN PEAK.
    YOUR INTERNATIONAL CALL IS FREE

NO PIN NUMBERS, NO FORMS, NO PRE PAY.
    SIMPLY DIAL AND SPEAK.

Peak 8.17c Off Peak 4.9c from landlines
    Budget Telecom 01 2143700

(as copied directly from the rte/aertel page)

Tried it on my mobile, think its charged at normal landline rate though, so whatever your network provider charges. Either way it works out better than having to get the cards I guess. As for the quality of the service, haven't checked it yet, am going to do so now :D

Edit: Hmm, that telestunt thingie actually looks better, more hmmmm.
    Anyone actually try it?

Don't think TeleStunt can be anything dodgy,
I mean what can go wrong with 1890 number,
Just rang Eircom and they will tell you that 1890 calls are charged at local rate.

For ringing UK or US at local rate from any phone
with no signup or by prepay cards with time limit.
I think it is a good deal

If its an 1890 number how can they then charge you 33 cents a minute? It seems your call is transferred to a premium number?

Also the first thing I normally do with websites offering bargains is to check their contacts page....strangely enough telestunt does not give a phone number, location address on which to contact them. I filled in their web form asking for this information but haven't heard back from them yet.

Saying that I do know a few people who have tried and they said it seems to be ok, but still I'm not convinced yet..

Just check their price list and you will see that
Not all countries has 1890 number.
Those country has 1890 number are charged at local rate
Those are not 1890 number are charged at 33c (they are 1530 numbers)

Also there seems to be telestunt in .co.uk and .de too

    edit:
I have tried it but waiting on my phone bill.
Would like to hear someone who got their bill alreay.

    >If its an 1890 number how can they then charge you 33 cents a minute? It seems >your call is transferred to a premium number?

    This is not entirely correct!
The 1890 numbers are special limited edition SUPER deals (eircom should charge only local rate on this)
While other countries use the 1530 number (a premium number)

Likewise, I know one other person who has used it and said they had no problems so far.
For me...the jury is still out!

    well spotted str8_away

they seems a little more reputable now!

The person I know using this service got his bill (not itemised), but his 1890 numbers also included the internet calls even so, he said the bill looked ok.

I don't see what's to lose here, at least for the "1890" list of countries... When you dial an 1890 number, you're billed by Eircom at local call rates (even if you have PCS with another provider). I can't see how they make any money, though, even though it's clearly some kind of VOIP job..!

And the absence of contact details on their website is certainly very off-putting — not to mention the name! But that could just have been chosen by some dozy German marketing genius whose English isn't good enough to realise the negative connotations of "stunt"...? (reminds me of a flash sportswear shop near where I used to live in France which called itself "Athlete's Foot"! :))

If I dial a 1890 number from my mobile, and I'm dialling an Irish mobile in Spain, does anyone know how much the other mobile is charged?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 50 ✭✭Reese

Umm, is that not a question on roaming charges rather than the topic?

No, not really. I don't know how the 1890 connects with the mobile rates.

silly names aren't odd for german call-through companies. you just have to look at www.teledump.de!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,363 ✭✭✭chabsey

I wonder if you're on that Esat advantage phone thing whereby you pay 25 euros a month and all local and national calls are free, do 1890 calls fall into the 'local' bracket.

So potentially you could be calling the US for free (aside from the 25 euros a month charge)?

Hello everybody. This is my first post on this site and probably my third or fourth post EVER on a forum ... so please play nice.

Here goes: I was looking for a company that provides cheap calls from Ireland to South Africa.

Google led me to this site.

I couldn't stop laughing when I read the post about the company called TeleSTUNT. Hehehehe. I don't know why but it just tickled me no end!

Before they even start out looks like their growth gonna be STUNTED! hehehe again.

Would you believe it I plugged the following into Google: "Cheap calls from Ireland to South Africa" and guess what pops up. Wait for it ... It's worth it ... A company called ... UcallWeconn.net.

Ok I'm sitting up again (Was rolling on the floor). WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE?

Thanks to Boards.ie for making my day. BTW: Totally not affiliated with above companies and looking at their names ... I'd be ... very careful.

Although before I throw too many stones let me confess:

I once had a company and thought nothing of its name. But every few months or so someone would say the name back to me and smile (or giggle depending) and then I realised what I'd gone and done ... but alas ... it was too late to change things.

Before I go ... don't say I wasn't the very first to wish you all ...

Hi antwalmar, this thread is 9years old!

Anyway telestunt.ie now cheapcalls.ie is run by finarea sa in switzerland aka 13434.ie telesavers.ie justdial.ie etc. etc.

Funny thing is they offer vastly different prices on some calls on different sites, we used to use 13434 a lot an it was great except it would give you an engaged tone a lot when it wasn't even attempting to call the number or give a ringing tone when it wasn't ringing took us ages to figure that out by calling with another phone while it was ringing. Presumably they have a limited number of cheap lines and when they're full you get this crap.
