I am a student living in Julianstown in County Meath and i travel to Dublin everyday. I am told by bus drivers etc that i have to pay a normal adult fare of 8.40 euro for an Adult day return. I have a valid International student identity card till december 04. Am i getting screwed over here ? On their website it says that a student daily return is 7.80 euro. Granted it is not that much in the difference but all this adds up, any help would be greatly appreciated

send an email to customer services querying the price, print out there reply and if the bus driver has been overcharging you, show him the email.
If he still has a problem, take his name (or number) the bus route, time and date and complain.

I remember getting on a bus and saying
"How much is it to Swords?"
"I don't know" (in that "what sort of a question is that?" tone)
"How do I know how much to pay then
"Well if you don't know how am I supposed to!?!?"

I laughed at this and he told me go get off the bus. Then the whole bus started laughing at him and he went a bit red in the face. Oh dear.......

ISIC cards are kinda gone as regards student travel, what you need to use is your college ID.

It's a plc course so i don't have a actual college id etc, it says on the site that isic card i legit, i'd expect a bigish operation such as bus eireann to be able to update a site if that is the case. I'll send a email to customer service etc, thanks :)

as far as i know, the isic isn't valid any more for discounts on student fares. they introduced their own card last september for student rate bus and rail tickets. i'd say check the cie website and it should tell you where to get them. i got mine last week in college and i get a free return train ticket to cork, as there's an offer on at the moment that gives you a voucher for a fren ticket anywhere in the country. pretty sweet, i thought, as it just saved me about €50, i think!

As beardedchicken says, Bus Eireann now have their own student card.
Which is a bit crap, means you need to carry around an ISIC *AND* a CIE student card as well as your college ID!

On the upside, the CIE card is open to Open University and other part time students which is cool :)

Not so - Irish Rail and Dublin Bus require the CIE Student Travelcard, Bus Eireann just require any valid student card, including the ISIC.

    By jove he's right!

"Bus Éireann advises customers who are students attending third-level colleges that, on and from 1 September 2003, tickets at Student fares (Single, Return, 10-Journey and Commuter) will be issued on production of any one of the following forms of identification: a valid International Student Identity Card, Translink Student Identity Card or City/National Student Travelcard issued by Bus Átha Cliath or Iarnród Éireann. Hello Ronan,

There are no day return fares for students.
The adult day return fare is EUR 8.40
The return fare for a student is EUR 7.80
The 10 journey student fare is EUR 32.00

    Regards
    Aisling
