Modem detection problem..

    Hi,

    My system has 2 OS 98 & 2000 (don't ask why...long story)..

When I boot up in 98, my modem is detected, but when I boot up in 2000, it's not. I tried setting it up manually, but no luck...

So if I want to surf, I have to reboot to 98 (I have other apps that can only run in 2000)..

Bit of a crappy setup but I'll be building new pretty soon, so any short-term fix you can offer to get the modem detected in 2000 weould be great.

    Thanks,

    Temp.

There are probably different drivers for that modem for Windows 2000. Find out the name of the modem in Windows 98 if you can. If you can't you might have to physically take out the modem and take a look at the name on the chipset. You can then google for a driver (or use a driver site like driverguide.com).

Alternatively, if you've got the driver CD for the modem still, just explore it for a win2k_xp folder.

    Still having trouble...

Got the drivers....but being crap at this stuff..not sure what to do...

The zip file has loads of *.sys and an *,inf file....not sure how to get these set up correctly..

Also, my modem isn't in the list inthe drop-down menu...can I just select Standar 56000bps ????

I hate having to keep booting back to 98 to go online....

Right click on the unknown device in win 2000 and update drivers ,when it asks where the drivers are point them to the folder the w2k files you have are.

    It should install from there.
