Less Sunday Game on Network Two this year!

Does anybody know why there is less Championship GAA coverage on RTE so far this year compared with previous years? Last year there were two live matches on Network Two every Sunday and a 90 minute Sunday Game in the evening plus a live qualifier every Saturday evening. This year there is just one live match every Sunday, the Sunday Game in the evening has been cut to 60 minutes and there will be no live qualifiers on the Saturday Evening. Why is this?

I would guess that the GAA were concerned about the effect of all the live games on attendances last year. I recall that that crowds were poor at some live games or at games on the same time as live games. So the GAA have cut back on the number of live games this year.

Maybe it's because not all of RTÉ's viewers are GAA fans and enjoy having so much of the weekends viewing given over to it.

    Or what ElNino said...

THis should have details of the schedule

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=157383

This outlines details for 2-3 games a good few weekends. I think that they are not showing two games this weekend for a combination of reasons including other sport being on rte, and bbc showing the game up north.

The Sunday Game has one of the highest viewing figures of RTE programmes and in my opinion only encourages more people to go to games.

It is not on for that long, a typical programme is about 2 hours long(for one game) and network2 would only have some crappy kids movie on instead anyway!

That's good so they are showing just as much as before! COOL!

Exactly what ElNino says, the GAA were concerned about the affect live Saturday evening games were having on local club games so they was an agreement with RTE to no longer show Saturday evening games.

Not showing the qualifiers is extremely stupid imo. The majority watching on TV are neutrals, who aren't going to travel either way, we're losing out because of the GAA's greed.
