    Hey lads,

I bow to ur superior knowledge.

Comments, criticism on this kit all priced up on komplett:

    http://www.tcal.net/comp190504.jpg

All I really want to know:

    1. Is this kit all ok together?
    2. Do I need extra things like fans? What else am I missing?

Obviously i've cdrom's etc. in my present machine so it's just half a new rig if u know what i mean, keeping existing monitor, speakers etc.

Also, not too concerned about sound card, vid card, i'll be using the onboard to start with, and i've my existing geforce 3 to throw in on arrival. Obviously a super kick ass video card coinciding with hl2's/doom3's release is nxt purchase.

Any other tips, criticisms let me know.

that drive is very quiet (I have the 120Gig version), but it is far from the fastest ..... I remember tomshardware checked out a good few a while back, the seagates were mediocre ..... I have recently bought a Maxtor Daimondmax 9 and that is really quiet as well .... (both have FDB).

You should wait for the nforce3 250 boards to come out. I think Komplett have the MSI early June. They will good for overclocking.

well i did look at the s-ata wd raptor 74gig - 10,000 rpm but the price is way high.

i've been applying that logic for that last year [i'll just wait a little longer...]. Though i suppose two weeks or so is ok. Also, I won't be overclocking.

Any one have comments on what fans/heatsinks/case fans i need?

This is more of a comment than a question really, but how much of a performance gain do you get really from having an AMD 64 3000+ as opposed to the "vanilla" athlon 3000+ on a socket A motherboard?

It just seems to me that you're paying ~€370 for the motherboard/processor combination, when an AMD athlon 3000+ and an Abit NFS V-2.0 would set you back half that, and I wonder if the perfomance gain is really all that solid.

not a massive gain between the AMD64 3000+ and an athlon 3200+

in fairness, you could pick up a 2500+ mobile processor & the mainboard that Swiss mentioned for a fraction of the price, then overclock the **** out of the processor.

your choice though, i've been browsing through komplett's stock this afternoon & drooling at the AMD64's even though i built my current rig 4 months ago:dunno:

a couple of case fans wouldn't go astray. one for intake near the bottom of the case, one for outlet near the top

my thinking behind the 64 is the fact that it gives me a bit of future-proofing.

I'm not into overclocking and upgrading every two months, just want a solid rig thats gonna do me good over the nxt while.

youd get a good gain now, but when you use 64 bit windows you will start to see massive gains because of the new registers on the chip and all that comig in to play.
