I came acrooss cdwow yesterday and to my dismay and delight their top selling DVD was Zaoitchi. There is a good selection of foreign films on the site which I want to buy. I just want to know what people think of them and if I will be charged VAT and import tax.

Well I just bought Zatoichi from cdwow.ie so I'm your man :) No VAT and no import tax (and I bought 2 other titles at the same time). Quick delivery too, with no fuss. I'd recommend it (assuming you have a multiregion DVD player).

    Is Zatoichi DTS soundtrack only?

Someone may correct me on this but as far as I know the official DVD spec states that all DVDs must have an audio track that can downmix to 2 channel stereo. So at worst (if it doesn't also have a dolby track of any kind) it should have a 2-channel PCM track in addition to the DTS track.

Right so it should still play for me?
DVD player with DTS doesn't work properly anymore and PS2 has no region killer, so I have the pc which doesnt support DTS and my other dvd player which doesnt support it either.

    Yeah it should.

In any case, checking here, there are two region 3 releases. The one of the two with a DTS track (the Hong Kong release) also has a DD5.1 track and a DS2.0 track so you should be doubly covered. And a Cantonese 2.0 track as well as the Japanese tracks if you feel in a wacky mood. So it'll definitely definitely play.

edit: Having read the imdb write-up I might well get the movie myself:)

According to amazon.co.uk ... someplace on the site i cant quite remember... it depends what volume of dvds they have coming in from the internet as to whether you'll get charged import duties.

Like if you order a dvd and its getting sent on a day when theres barely any dvds being delivered theres more of a chance of them discovering it and charging you import duty that on a day when theres thousands of dvds comin in.

All a matter of luck i suppose :D
