The picture doesn't show but Maplins should be able to sort you out.

    ok. sit down.

    relax.

    take a deep breath.

get up again and turn off your computer

leave it off to make sure it doesn't go overheating on you. as suggested above head down to maplins and pick a bog standard one up plugging the connections in the same way as the old one.

in the meantime you might have a fan from another unused computer that you throw in to keep you going?

Apart from the last 2 pictures, I couldnt make out the rest of them. Its quite blurry. I'd suggest that you list your website instead of putting a picture here like so:

    http://www.geocities.com/bernardstrains/pcfan001.jpg
    http://www.geocities.com/bernardstrains/pcfan002.jpg
    http://www.geocities.com/bernardstrains/pcfan003.jpg

    http://www.geocities.com/bernardstrains/pcfan005.jpg

since everytime you try to do that the pictures doesnt seem to appear.

gah dell realy take the piss they dont even use standard 3 pin connectors for fans ;(

do they use molex power connectors?
if so you could just pick up a fan that will plug into a molex

pic of a molex so u can spot it

eh dont no not sure on that look at the pics in the top post

2 things - first, how come you've only got a 1 month warranty? Second, a "molex" is the white power cable going into a CD/DVD ROM Drive or a Hard disc. if you have any spare ones you can plug a standard fan into that. But you could also solder the dell connection onto a new fan's wires...

EDIT: As for the fan, looks like a standard case fan - get a nice quite panaflow or pabst if you can get your hands on them

...all that's visible is a message from Geocities saying that your site is unavailable.

From what I can tell, your PC uses a thermistor-controlled fan, such as the NMB/Minebea 3612KL-04W-B66 (which is used in at least some 8300's, AFAIK). The only thing that makes it special is that the aforementioned thermistor adjusts the fan's rotational speed in response to how hot the air flowing over it is.

NMB are hard enough to find in the consumer market, but other more recognisable companies such as Antec also do temperature-controlled fans (look out for their SmartFan series). I haven't seen the type of plug used by the fan in your computer, so a little rewiring may be required, but as the thing should only use either two wires or three, this won't be rocket science.

    Hope this helps,
    Gadget

no its black you have to connect it to the motherboard or a **** load of error messages pop up

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,569 ✭✭✭maxheadroom

In order to view the pictures, add a ? to the end of the URL

EDIT: If its giving errors if it isn't connected, you're going to have to rewire the new fan to the old plug.

thanks gadget yeah the fan is a NMB/Minebea 3612KL-04W-B66 wish dell whouls give it to me i would pay for it as they said " we only sell computers"  :( ejits

The connector's no big issue - the red wire's the positive (+), the black's the negative(-), and the third one's the speed sensing - unless the PC senses that the fan is spinning, it won't start so that the CPU doesn't fry. You can chop off the connector from the current fan (make sure to leave at least a few inches of wire coming out of the plug) and connect the appropriate wires together.

Thermistor control's no huge biggie either - a decent fixed-speed fan, capable of pumping out say 40-50CFM (your NMB is rated to 70, but at 44dBA, which is bloody loud, so it probably never reaches this in use). The big pain in the arse is that the fan is deep - most standard 80mm and 92mm fans are 25mm or 38mm deep, this one's 32, which sucks...

However, I can offer the following models as possible replacements (though you may have to buy them from specialist suppliers, possibly in the US - try froogle?). Each one shows the lower power/speed device first:
    Nidec M34720/M34722
    Delta EFB0912LF/EFB0912MF
    Sanyo Denki 109P0912S201/109P0912M201

None of these are thermistor controlled, but none draw much more than 100mA @ 12VDC, because otherwise you may fry the motherboard tracks supplying the socket, which could land you in a heap of trouble. They also should suck enough air to keep your PC from cooking itself, though it may run a little hotter than usual under full load, I don't know how much of the fan's reserve capacity is actually used.

Otherwise, google threw up a company selling dell spares (URL was http://www.kamcom.com/dell), but it was broken. Don't know if that's of any help.

    Good luck,
    Gadget

Try ring them again and ask for AMS (After Market Sales) - they may be able to sell you the component.
