Not too bad once it kicks in - 900KB/s.

I'm sure it'll be available here soon too:

Does anyone know if it'll be released on HEAnet? I just checked there (14:14 on the 18th of May) and there was no sign of it.

DIT is linked into that, so we can get pretty high download speeds.

It's not on HEAnet or ftp.esat.net at the moment, I'm sure it'll be there when it's generally available.

That site mirror.ac.uk should be fast from DIT, it's on JANET in the UK and they have two 1Gb connections to HEAnet.

Yeah, Just tried it (mirror.ac.uk) and got a "permission denied" message.

I'm not too pushed about it, as I have a final tomorrow. I might give it another shot on thursday.

So anyone running it yet? How does it compare to Fedora 1 and/or Mandrake 10?

Compared to Mandrake its bloatware. Compared to Windows its bloatware. Seems to have similar recommended specs as Longhorn. Actually its probably even bloatware compared to Fedora Core 1 (which wouldnt even install on same machine). I've never seen _any_ OS crawl on a P3 with 256 RAM - until now.

    bloatware? are you for real?

do a custom install don't install every peice of homosexual software there is complile the kernel to suit your needs and off you go,

    sigh...

I'm installing it now on a dell 500m.

    Fingers Crossed.

Well, It appears that was a short lived Install.

"hwdata-0.1181-1" is corrupt, so the install failed

edit: It appears every disk that I downloaded fails the media check. I downloaded the ISOs from HEAnet in college and used nero to burn them onto CDs. Did I miss something? The CDs can be read fine, so I'm thinking I made a stupid newbie mistake.

did you check the md5 sums before burning?
does fedora still ask you if you want to check the discs before installing? maybe try that...

Well, I tried again and all the discs were grand.

It is a lot bigger than my previous install (2.4gb vs 1.6 for RH9) but everything seems to be working fine, with the notable exception of "Maelstrom".

    Dammit.

And I can't test the wireless till I switch back to WEP.
