As a newcomer, how does one get the opportunity to lose his money to you folks?

Hi. Welcome to boards. The best way to start is to either sign up for a home game when it is announced or to meet up with some of us heading into one of the clubs. A home game might be the least stressful for a beginner.

It's not really a poker school yet just a bunch of folks off boards who can't get enough of the poker. Easiest way to meet folks is to come along to the fitz some evening - thursdays be cheapest. Just post the day you is going in and meet up in the henry grattan at 8ish beforehand. Otherwise try and sign up for one of the home games before everyone else does.

I think he means poker school generic sense. I have heard that term used to describe home games or a group of people who play poker together.

Is there another meaning? I was just assuring the lad that there wasn't any requirements to join in beyond being on boards and interested in poker. I'm curious/confused now... what did you think I meant? (can you tell I'm bored with study?)

I thought you meant like a school school. You know a place of structured learning?

Can you tell I am bored with being home sick?

So we're both sitting at home spamming the poker board and running up phone bills? It's gonna be a long week.

Kelter - unfortunately many threads on this board do degenerate into mindless spam like this one. The boredom of work/study/illness - take your pick.

Home game might be the best way to start if you haven't played in a casino before, we always play with the same rules as the Fitz, but we're not going to shout at you or penalise you if you make a mistake.

The Fitz on a thursday at 9pm, or a sunday at 6.30pm is the freeroll, a bit more relaxed than other tournaments and welcoming to n00bies.

id prefer to get comfortable with the game first and see how others play before I
start heading to the Fitz as Id probably be gone within 5 mins..

I was supposed to be going to see my old mother on Saturday. That has fallen through. I will speak to the other half and see if I am allowed to poker nights in a row.

Check back later, I will post around 9 if I am holding one.

Velcomen. Kelter. As the lads have already said, get your name down for a home game (If your living in Ireland/Dublin) . Try to scan the list of names already down first before you commit. If you see names like enda or Henbane or Hen or Bane (or any mention of a Bubble), skip that game ('specially if it's on a Sat nite). Enda has a habit of drinking copious amounts of Weisteiner beer and trying to deal (Not a sight I would want you to see on a Sat night) cards. His attention span is zilch :D . And he wins  *

*The fact that he took me for €10 on a AK when I had QQ in a cash game has SFA got to do with this

It's more the shuffling than the dealing that causes problems. Still had enough attention span to make back more than I lost on the bsop heat - surprised myself with that... guess the only brain cells I'm not killing off on a regular basis must be the poker ones. I play sober too, it's just less amusing/annoying for everyone else when I do.

    indeed and  again.

Is the Fitzwilliam poker school still running? I don't see any mention of it on their website...

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,806 ✭✭✭Lafortezza

I think it starts in June some time, have a wander into the Fitz whenever and there's a load of info on the notice board
