Hey all,Im heading to the US for the summer and thats all very well but i wont be 21 until i get back therefore the whole issue of fake id has arisen...

Rather than going down the traditional scanning the old driving licence one of my friends has recently suggested using www.fluxcard.com which is an irish company that do up fake ids for about 20-25euro.

Has anyone used this company and would reccomend i go down this route? Or would i be better off investing in a scanner?

Some of my m8s weren't 21 yet when we went but they write the date as mm/dd in the states instead of dd/mm so they got away with it...so if your bday wasn't till say dec 1st it would be 01/12 on your ID but the americans would read that as the 12th of Jan...don't know if thats any help....

Oh most of the places we went to in SF would also take a photocopy of a passport - if they questioned it we'd say we didn't like to carry the passport around...anyhoo you could always scan and photoshop it! ;)

Kinda border line, not asking were to get any fake id's or anything, just looking to hear what that company that makes those id's are like which are legit.. so ill let it stay
though I did hear that taking a photcopy of passports around did work..

Because it's not illegal unless you're selling fake passports/driving licences. There's probably a disclaimer to say these cards should only be used for entertainment purposes.

I thought bars in the USA would only accept a passport as ID anyway?

Heya, myself and friends used the J1 Card from fluxcard when we were in America. It worked fine, and it looked pretty legit :D

Be careful with the ID though. If you're searched at immigration & they find an ID that doesn't agree with your passport you won't be going anywhere for a while.

i've used them before, very good service, card looks good aswell.
    I'd recommend them

A fake USIT card worked fine for me when I was in San Francisco around 5 years ago. Irish bars were a problem though as they were *wide* to the whole fake USIT card thing.

I was in the states last year and no matter what bar I went to I was never questioned for ID. Well in one bar, the barman asked to see ID but when I did'nt have any he recognised the irish accent and just served me.

Well you must look very old.

Hey namaimo, I went to the States last year and was in the same situation as you. I managed to get a fake provisional but it was useless as everywhere was so strict. I was in San Diego and in California they check ID most places and everywhere we were they wanted passports for ID, so it isn't worth wasting your money. Also plainclothes police were waiting outside bars checking for people who didn't get in and scrutinising passports, taking the names and addresses of anyone they stopped legit passports or not. So just be really careful where you go and what your story is. If you have a friends passport it'll be confiscated as I know someone it happened to.
Also in the states ignorance of the law isn't an excuse. My advice is wait til you are 21 if you can, if not be careful.

When I was in Boston it was very strict. They nearly always checked ID.

However, if they serve you the drink (and you manage to drink it) they would not ask you for ID as the person in question could just leave the bar and tell a cop they got served there. If that happens the bar is closed on the spot.

But considering how jumpy the US is, I wouldn't chance fake ID especially if you got stopped in customs. It would be grounds to refuse to let you into the US.

i was in boston last summer, i agree totally with what you say, i was 21 but i still had to bring passport everywhere, even to the same liquor store and show it every time!! even to the same person

im sure you will find away to get drunk somehow!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 345 ✭✭leonotron

when i was there a few years ago a friend of ours had a fake drivers license, we could tell it was a fake but the bouncers never did. It would be easy enough to make one of these yourself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 223 ✭✭namaimo

Woah thanks guys for all the replies! Some of ye have filled me with confidence that this is doable and others have made me think about getting a refund on my J1!

At this stage ive narrowed it down to a fake driving licence (with photoshop + highclass printer + laminator working a treat!)

and a photocopy of my passport (on the grounds that it would too dangerous to bring my actual passport in case i lost it... ;) )

and then ill show my credit card cause you have to be 21 in the states to own a credit card.

One of my friends said if i do get let in the first night get the bouncer to sign the photocopy thus eliminating further problems for the rest of the summer -what do ye think?

If all this doesnt work ill be back on to ye from the states!!! :D

You really do not want to get caught with this. If you do they will revoke your visa.

Bars (in Boston at least) would not accept this.

You can get a credit card at contractual age. Which varies from state to state, however most if not all places will not accept this as a valid forum of ID.

Btw if you go to the bible belt states you actually have to get a special ID while you are in the US to buy/drink.

My mate that had the fake drivers license got caught by the cops for a minor infringement and it even passed as ID on that ocassion

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 813 ✭✭✭dave13

in most parts of the states you can't get prosecuted as long as it says fake i.d on the drivers license. So all you do is print fake i.d IN IRISH on the pack of the drivers license. This worked for a friend of mine last year in california.

Thing is places now are so strict you have to have a passport or they won't let you in and they definitely won't accept a drivers licence, it is passport only. And you do not want to get caught with a fake passport or someone elses because you will be prosecuted.

Where exactly in the US are you going to ?.
In Boston (city center) you don't have a hope without a Passport or Massachusetts driving license, you might have better luck in the suburbs but they usually get very strict once the J1 rush starts.
In Yonkers and the North Bronx in NY (very popular Irish suburbs) they never ask you for ID. In Manhattan they are likley to ask you for ID, but not as much as in Boston.

kinda off/on topic, but funny anyhoo

a mate of mine, ger, was trying to get into a bar, and one of those aformentioned plain-clothes cops pulls him over cos he had no passport only a (fake)driving liscence,(he was19 too).
after much scrutinising of said lisence the cop must have known something was up, but didnt know what exactly. then he notices the word provisional, cue in best COPS-style: "excuse me sir, this says provisional, does this mean it is not a full lisence or only a learners permit?"

ger: "uh..no...it...uh..means that this was issued in the 'PROVISIONAL REPUBLIC OF IRELAND...uh as opposed to...northern ireland..."

the cops face dropped instantly and started gushing apoligies and he got in for free!!

Goin to U.S. on J1 too... only 20... yada yada yada. Plan to have some form or fake id with me - prob 'photocopied' passport / fake driver's licence / fake USIT etc. - but I'm worried about getting caught at immigration with these fraudulent documents. Am I being paranoid? I see this nightmare scenario in my head where I get my visa revoked and other such nasty sh-t happening. What do ye think? I guess I'll keep them in my suitcase wrapped up some clothes or something.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 187 ✭✭IDM

The fake USIT thing won't work to buy drink or get into a 21 club. Most people don't realise this but there's a USIT equivalent in the states that makes exactly the same cards! The bouncers know full well that they never ask for proper ID at the travel places where they make these, so don't bother with that.

You definitely have to be careful about buying drink these days. A Swedish friend of mine in Washington just helped his 21 year old friend carry booze out of a shop and a plain-clothes policeman arrested both of them! The 21 year old for supplying a minor & my friend for just carrying it! Pretty crazy, eh ?

I was an au pair in the states several years ago and there was a trick that all the au pairs used. Not sure if it will be any use for here or is still applicable but I'll tell you anyway. In England, where I originate, you get an international driving licence
, which is wot we needed for driving over there.
It was a booklet type of license with multiple languages on as it was applicable all over Europe. In the back there was two fold out pages where the photo and all the details were entered.
Now the right hand fold out was in English and the inner fold out, not used, was in French. When it was issued, the English page was completed and stamped. So.....
We used to cut off the English page. Write all the details we wanted on the French page, move the picture and smudge any old stamp over the corner of the photo and hey presto. Worked a treat. Can also be done after entering country, so id is legit and correct on entry to states. It worked a treat when I was there.
As i said it is a few years since I did this so it may not be an option any more, but if they still exist in the same format then it is a goer. Might be worth checking out.

    Had a quick look and

    http://www.oasis.gov.ie/transport/motoring/international_driving_permit.html

Just need to check if it still same format that can be easily modified.

credit cards don't work because you need photo id.

Also most bartenders/bouncers are pretty strict over there, I've been hassled before with a Canadian drivers license, and you would think they would be familiar with them by now.

Your best bet is to avoid the big, popular clubs as they'll be strictest.

I am 30 and I still get ID'ed whenever I'm in the states.

Does anyone one have first hand experience of Hawaii for namaimo. There is no use saying that 'an international drivers license works here' or 'a USIT card works there' because the level of strictness (?) varies from city to city and even suburb to suburb.

Hawaii may not be as easy going as you think namaimo, it is a popular holiday destination therefore you have a lot of 'out of towners', places tend to be more strict in these cases. But then again I am only guessing, has anyone first hand experience of Hawaii?.

    Alrighty,

I used to make, and was claimed the countrys best, fake drivers licenses for kids going to the states, quite some time ago. Simple enough system nowadays, and as has been said, make sure if you do it yourself you have in Irish "For novely use only!" written somewhere on the license. This protects you in America as well as at home if you get caught here. Don't forget its a pretty damn big offense, to be faking National Drivers licenses. But by stating that little line, you are claiming that it is a toy! And in good ole Ireland we dont need to put anything in English, as we are Irish!

Anywho, I now live in the U.S. So I will give you some other points about how to watch yourselves over there. The more and more I am over there the more I here of Irish kids getting nailed for something and having to go to court, which is not a good thing, and will end up costing you tonnes, and never getting back into America again.

So, In America, you need either a State Drivers license (sometimes they wont even accept out of state Drivers licenses) or a passport. There is a fast decline in the acceptance of Irish Drivers Licenses over there as well. So its not going to be easy.

I forgot to mention, I also happen to be a bartender, as a second job. Joy!! Someone who knows the sytem! Every bar has a very large book of licenses from all over the world to reference, not to say that they accept them. When I work as a bartender or bouncer, I will check ID's on people up to 40 years of age. IT is the American way. So dont think you will always get away with looking a bit older.

But it is true that some States are harder than others. In particular, Boston, Rhode Island, Chicago and NY, happen to be the most difficult due to such high volumes of Irish and J1ers. I was one myself quite a few years back, and had a blast thanks to my fake license! Hawaii is going to be strict enough. They are a tourist resort and are wise to the ways. And dont even bother with any form of student cards, you will be laughed at! And Americans can get credit cards at all ages, not just when they turn 21.

The International Drivers license trick is a little outdated. Good for renting cars, yes, but not for drinking. I also had one of those. Got my brother, who was older, to get one at the AA office in Dublin, next to Grafton street, and then I switched his photo with one of mine. And by the way, I was even able to rent a car with a provisional license when I was 20 over there as a J1er. They arent always clued in!

Safety at immigration!!! Please, please, please be careful! As was stated earlier here, if they find a single ID, that contradicts your other ID's you aint gonna make it, and you will possibly face a ban for quite a few years.

Post 9/11, is making life a little harder all the time, and making the Americans extra paranoid. If you are taking any fake ID with you, make sure it is tucked away somewhere smart, and not left in your wallet.

Anyone, who has a trade i.e. carpenter, plumber, builder, etc you are more liable to get questioned at immigration than a regular student. And remember they can turn you away ay any time they want, you have no rights entering their country. (and lets not start a human rights debate!)

Those Fluxcard things look alright. And an idea is to have two forms of ID to back one another up. i.e. your fake drivers license and a fluxcard thing. And whatever you do, DO NOT GET A FAKE US DRIVERS LICENSE!!!! They are easy to come by over there once you know the right people, but if you get caught you will be rightly f**ked!!

Their drinking laws are pretty differnt to, all depending on what state you are in. Dont buy it for underage drinkers, dont carry it on the streets unless you are in New Orleans. And yeah, wathc out for plane clothed cops. They are a lot yougner than you think. And dont every mess with State Troopers if they come across you. Having worked for the police myself, I would take great enjoyment throwing you in jail for a few nights, if you gave me **** back like we would give our Gardai here at home.

Anyways, its all good fun. So enjoy yourself, and I might see you in Hawaii, as I aiming to be back there in July.

Went to Maui in Hawaii on a J1 a few years ago and for anyone under 21 forget about it. I used work in a bar and the liquor commissioner used to check up on us every couple of weeks.ie raiding the bar and checking every person for id.
Most supermarkets had a policy of asking anyone who looked under 30(some under 40) for id. Even though i worked in a bar and had an official id approved by the liquor commissioner(Have to sit a test in order to get it) that stated i was over 21, most bars and clubs wouldnt accept in unless they knew me.
Your best bet is a fake state driving licence or else changing the date on your passport (remember the date in america is in mm/dd/yyyy format not dd/mm/yyyy). Dont believe anyone who tells you its more laid back then the mainland. I used even get asked for id when buying cigarette papers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,169 ✭✭✭dangerman

just a thing on being cautious at immigration.

if i were to break the law... which i would never do but i think if one was trying to get a fake id to the states would it not be best to post it?

just put the novelty hilarious joke id in with a letter saying 'here's ur driving licence son, how silly of you to forget it, *wink* *wink* enjoy it.' and get a mate to send it when u've got an address in the states.

getting caught with it at immigration would suck so incredibly badly.

By the way, the FBI are watching this thread. I know it. :ninja:
