If all you're looking to do is "general business college work (pres, reports excel) stuff like that, but also want it to be able to handle a lot of music and maybe some dvds as well", you don't need plenty of memory, you just need adequate memory. And perhaps a nice big hard drive if you plan on storing music on it.

Given that your needs don't appear to be that high (you don't mention gaming at all), get a nice light laptop rather than something that runs like a bad boy on acid because you don't need the speed. I know all you kids love to say your machine is faster than the devil himself but wouldn't you rather get something you can carry with one hand and actually have the ability to sit it on your lap without it ironing your pants? Hope so.

have a look at this thread.

As sceptre said, if you don't need a gaming monstor of a laptop, you can choose from a range of smaller, lighter machines. The Acer Aspire 2012LCi seems to adequately fit all of your needs which costs 985GBP inc. vat on the acer notebook website.
You could always get an external hard drive as well, which are becoming quite cheap, if you needed more space.
