You should be getting 17-18k atleast. Make sure you have AA and AF turned off, ie run it at stock settings.........

Yep, you should certainly be getting more. My rig is similar (actually, they're almost identical!). Running everything at stock speeds I got 17408. Was going to ask what FSB:Mem ratio your memory is running at, but that big a drop probably would be accounted for by non 1:1 settings... What does CPU-Z show?

tried again with AA off and AF off 16345 not too bad, had a look at CPU-Z where abouts iam i looking says FSB : DRAM = 1:1 under timings

Well peoples scores are at stock settings for 2001, you might be using different ones. With a little overclocking you should get 17-19k which is very nice performance.

Aye very similar system to mine. I did the same thing the first time I used 3dmark2001.

You should push close to 20k with a little overclocking. I managed to get mine there with my proc @ 3.52, memory @ 440mhz and graphics at 459/398.

If I optimised some more i'd say I could have got another 1000.

on a side note i just looked at my agp apeture size and its 64mb.
what does this relate to and should i change it to 128 to equal the amount of memory my gc has?

You might find these of interest as a reference, my benchmarks for stock, then current overclock:

    3.0GHz GFX at Pro stock
    3DMark2001: 17,815
    3DMark2003: 5,820
    AquaMark03: 43,442

    O/C to 3.6GHz (fsb @ 240), GFX: 427.5/405
    3DMark2001: 20,596
    3DMark2003: 6,979
    AquaMark03: 49,909

You should be able to get a higher O/C on the 9800Pro, I got 412/365. I later flashed it to an XT BIOS (and just today to another BIOS Sir Random found) that really gave a boost to the scores. When you were fitting your Arctic Cooler did you note the number on the chip? If it was an R360 you'll be good to flash to an XT.
Some 9800 O/C threads here and here.
    Hope this helps

I have mine at 64Mb also. I've read a rule of thumb is to set it to half your system memory, but I have no idea if that's valid. Personally I think if I set it to 512 my machine would tell me to **** off. It's basically sets the amount of system memory you want the graphics card to be able to access (if it runs out of its own?).

This might help demonstrate its effects. 64 should be just fine.

Aye its for sharing the system memory with the graphics card but the graphics card hardly ever needs it. Set it to a quarter of your system RAM.

It makes no difference anyway as it's only used when it needs to be, which ain't often.

Bloodbath, that's a nice O/C! on your XT! What cooling are you using? Did I read it was an Arctic Silencer somewhere? And did you fit memory chip heatsinks?

Cheers man but thats only with the stock cooling on the Sapphire. I can't wait to see how high she goes with an artic. I think it's going this high now because I have a vantec pci spectrum fan card blowing directly into it.

She should push over 500-550 core easily with the artic. I doubt the memory will go much higher though.
