slightly old news but just read it

LOVE PARADE 2004 IN BERLIN CANCELLED
The Love Parade organization has announced there won't be a Love Parade in Berlin this year, due to unsecured financing. Love Parade's operating partners are involved in other industries and all are suffering from the current economic situation with less money to sponsor large events.
The Love Parade originally started in the city of Berlin by DJ Dr. Motte in 1989. His idea of a demonstration through house music eventually led to a demonstration for tolerance, respect and understanding between nations. Themes that were used for the editions of the Love Parade speak for themselves like last year's, "Love Rules".

Love Parade lost the status as a demonstration in 2001 and since then, there have been many losses. To give you an idea: the production costs for Love Parade in 2001 were 301,700 euros while last year's edition was more than 1.2 million euro with 250,000 less people in attendance, when compared to 2001.

We all need the Love Parade to let everyone int he world know we would like to live in peace. The future of Love Parade in Berlin is being discussed as we speak while other global parades are already on the horizon... (04/15/04)

appears that the love parade people were forced by the gov to make it not a demostration anymore after it got so big and then finance issues ensued?

    what do people think

they say this every year...looks a bit more serious/official than normal this year tho. its even on the official site www.loveparade.net truth is though, its next to impossible to cancell the loveparade and Berlin will go nuts that wknd anyway.
I think the Zurich Streetparade is better anyway. was there in 2001 (Berlin Loveparade that is), and wasnt what i expected at all....unreal day and nite and wknd but the people were just not friendly....i was like "wheres the love"

:D I was there in 2000 and ended up chastising a West Berliner for saying that he didn't like people from the Eastern side, in general though I found it mostly friendly. Brilliant event though and although I had no intention of going this year I'd still be a little sad to see it cancelled.

I'm surprised that it's costs thats preventing it from going ahead though - it was planning permission last year that jepordised it if I remember correctly.
