Any news on HL2 mapping yet?

    Heyloha'
Just a pondering I have... I'm a worldcraft kinda guy, but having started using Unreal-ED, I wonder at the future of mapping for HL2.
Personally I think Hammer editor does things far better than Unreal-ed, but then I've been using worldcraft a lot longer, so I'm bound to get annoyed with unreal-ed.
So is there any mention of what system HL2 will be using?

Its not released but is obtainable.

If you got the leak there is a buggy version of it in there that req a few files to fix.

That's great - a mod telling people to get the leaked version

Anyways, it's using a modified Hammer editor and the SDK should be out in about a month or so.

Anyone here interested in working on an Irish HL2 mod?

Pretty doubtful I'd say.. though i wouldn't mind trying a single player mod for HL2.. its always been a goal of mine to make a single player mod.. never got round to doing more than one map for it in hl1 :/

Yep, mods don't just fall into place... it takes a team of extremely talented and dedicated people from all areas of modding with lots and lots of time to spare.
I don't think most people would be bothered getting involved until there's something tangible has formed already.
In which case you'll have to do most of the groundwork yourself so you'll at least have something to show people.
I think people underestimate the amount of work involved tbh.

Yeah I've always played mods like 'They Hunger', and thought "hmm this is do-able", no additional coding, no modeling or texturing (bar the odd skin)... just a series of maps with its own storyline.

Nice to hear they're staying with a worldcraft base anyway.... not sure I'd be bothered looking for the leak, since there's nothing to test your maps on :p

Not bad idea to get used to the editor , the one for doom3 is easy enough to use but kinda weird not having to compile anymore :/

Its not mapping its more like drawing.

I do know what's involved in making mods, I won a PCGamer single-player mod competition in 2001.
Now I want to make a single player RPG/FPS mod using the HL2 engine. I already did some testing of ideas with Valve Hammer last year (created a DART station + DARTs :)) but (as we all know) the SDK was never released so I shelved the project.
I intend to use digital photo textures throughout, so 2D artists aren't required. I have also done plenty of scripting so what I'm really looking for are modellers familiar with 3DMax (or Milkshape/Amapi etc). I'll be going ahead with this anyway, I just thought some people here might be interested.

Well forgive the sceptisism then :p
It seems everyone and their granny has a mod idea, but not the patience/knowledge to take it all the way to completion.... I think most of us are tired of hearing ideas that'll never happen.
What was the name of your mod btw? maybe I've played it.

The PCGamer mod was 'Conquest' for the game Severance: Blade of Darkness

It took me 3 months to make and I won a Hercules GeForce3 :)

I can't wait to get hold of the HL2 engine, I've some crazy ideas to exploit the havok physics (not stupid pre-arranged barrels and planks like in Max Payne2).
