HDD knackered?

I think my HDD is knackered! :(

I'm back on my old computer ( :dunno: ) because my other computer is refusing to boot. It gets to "Verifying DMI (DMA??) something something" and then sits there. After a while I got an error message along the lines "Read-disc error. Ctrl-Alt-Del to reboot"

It was one of the last eBay items I've not replaced (like my RAM, MB and GFX card...only CPU left...I hope that's OK!) so methinks it's knackered.

Any recommendations for HDD's? I'll either get it online, or if there's not much of a price difference (yeah right) offline...

Their Samsung prices seem good although I suspect these are 2mb caches. If they are 8mb then definately go with the Samsung. If not order online from Komplett or Jes.

komplett are a HELLUVA lot cheaper than PC world. I believe a Western Digital 80gb costs only 80euro in komplett (about). And they are a good brand.

    Jes: Samsung 160GB €95
    Komplett: Western Digital 160GB €110

is it worth the extra €15?

I was thinking of getting WinXP Pro too - can a German version (i.e. the one on Jes) be "converted" to an English version, or are they all the one version and you just choose the language at startup? There's more than €100 in the price difference.
