    This is from Gateworld.net

"Season Eight is now filming in preparation for a July 9, 2004 premiere on The Sci-Fi Channel!"

I think this is in the states and I havn't been able to find anything specific on a UK/Ireland air date. I should be around a similar time though. Unless this is the same sci-fi channel we get on sky digital.

It won't be, it'll probably be September/October on Sky 1.

I imagine a few people will see these episodes before they officially air here.. I'll hope all and sundry will be cautious when talking about them.
Atlantis is, as far as I'm aware, still meant to be running concurrently with SG-1, so I'll assume they'll start very close to one another.

As far as I know Atlantis starts July 16th but again I believe that's in the states.
I'm hoping it won't be as late as Sept/Oct before they air here. But then I'll hopefully be one of those who sees them before they're released here :)

    As a reminder:

We will have no linking to BitTorrent files on this board, thank you very much. Feel free to continue discussing its merits, but be aware that any posts containing links to copyrighted materials will be removed.

yeah....so about that bit torrent gear...what is it?

Basically there's a few people with the file you want to download.
They're all using a bit torrent client to connect to a specific web address.
You then connect to the address and start downloading the file from those guys who already have. The more people that have it the less chance there is that your download will be cut half way through.
You never really know who you're downloading from. I don't like it, it's too anonymus.
I use DC++ (C++ version of Direct Connect) which uses Hubs (kinda like IRC chat rooms) where you can see a list of stuff the user has to share and you can send messages to those you're downloading from, it also gives you their i.p. address. Plus the hubs are moderated, people get kicked and banned.

without mentioning any locations of fantastic torrents i have to say that as long as ive used them on ive never had a problem. i prefer the anonymous nature.

What are you downloading that requires the anonymity??? :p

Well I don't know about the rest of you, but I can honestly vouch, on the honour of Apophis, that any episodes I manage to see before the terrestial/satellite showing here will be purely down to my having flown back and forth across the Atlantic every week, paying into a motel, and watching it on TV there :D

I think you'll find that almost all TV shows (including Stargate) are the property of their respective production houses, and as such, downloading them is a breach of European and Irish copyright law. Since you're discussing the merits of BitTorrent and DC++ on this board, I assume you are referring to the logistics of downloading Stargate episodes. Hence freely giving away your IP address sounds like risky behaviour for somebody carrying out a criminal practise.

Of course if one were to engage in such a practice then giving away ones ip address could be considered a risk. But then one could argue that to gain something one must employ a measure of risk.
But when ones ip is given to those who provide the service (and are not part of any undercover agency!) the risk is minimalised.
    :)

With the anonymity statement I was asking to why he wouldn't want to interact in any way with the other person he was downloading from rather than be part of somehting that was more of a community?

You're half right :) The first half of Season 7 was shown on the US Sci-Fi channel before anywhere else in the world. It aired from 13 Jun '03 - 22 Aug '03. Then they took a long break, resuming at 3x12 on the 9 Jan. What had happened in the meantime was that Sky One began broadcasting and didn't take a break, and ended up showing 3x12 before the US. So we got the second half, but not the first half, of the season before the States.

A second point is that the first half of the season very much WAS available in various forms before it broadcast here but obviously not for the second half.

Finally, the UK Sci-Fi channel isn't really related to its US sibling, so that's why they don't automatically get the rights to Stargate or some other shows.

A Scifi special show "From Stargate to Atlantis: The Lowdown" will air on Monday July 5th, the Season 8 opening two-parter New Order airs on Friday the 9th (When I'll be at Oxegen  ) and the Atlantis two-part premier Rising airs the following Friday the 16th. Then each week has one episode of SG-1 and one of Atlantis.

Sky will probably start in late September/early October with Season 8, but they haven't confirmed if they've bought the rights to Atlantis yet...

And there are ways for people on 56k to get low-quality 30MB versions of the new episodes within 4 hours of them airing on the Scifi Channel. ;)
