Thunderbird + Maildir

Does anyone know if it's possible to make Thunderbird read from a Maildir rather than an mbox?

I currently have fetchmail pulling mail from a couple of different addresses. It delivers it to procmail which filters all the mail through SpamAssassin and then sorts the mail into various maildirs. I then read it with Evolution.

The thing is, I'm not sure do I want to move to Thunderbird. I like the way it has a nice newsreader and doesn't depend on half of Gnome, but I don't want to have to convert ~200MB of Maildir to mbox just to test it out.

In case it matters to anyone, here are the versions of the various packages:

    conor@mcdermc [~]> pkg_info | cut -d\ -f1 | egrep '(fetc|proc|evo|thu|Ass)'
    evolution-1.4.6_1
    fetchmail-6.2.5_2
    p5-Mail-SpamAssassin-2.63_1
    procmail-3.22_4
    thunderbird-0.6

    And my OS is:

    conor@mcdermc [~]> uname -a
    FreeBSD mcdermc 5.2.1-RELEASE-p4 FreeBSD 5.2.1-RELEASE-p4 #0: Tue Mar 30 00:31:33 IST 2004 root@mcdermc:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/MCDERMC i386

Thanks, I saw that before, but that's actually instructions to tell you how to get mutt to interoperate with a Maildir-using Thunderbird. It says nothing at all about making Thunderbird use Maildir.

In fact, I've been recently pointed to http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58308 which seems to suggest that Thunderbird does not support Maildir at all. I think the guy at the link you gave me was using IMAP locally to allow him to use Thunderbird with Maildir

    Thanks for the help anyway.

this is a round about way of doing it but you could install a local imap server... Eg: courier-imapd and connect to your mdir through that...

Well that is if Thunderbird doesnt actually support maildirs (I have no clue if it does or not)

I was thinking of doing that, but it seems like a bit of a waste. After all, I only want to make Thunderbird read Maildir so that I can try it out to see if I want to switch away from Evolution. Having to pick my mail up locally via IMAP is a bit much for that. I think I'll just wait till Thunderbird+Maildir gets implemented.

It doesn't, as I found out after I posted. Unless of course the bugzilla note I mentioned is out of date. :)
