As promised, here is some info about the World Poker Chamionship which is being held in the Merrion 23rd – 27th June 2004 and is being televised in ten parts on SKY Sports

The club are trying to get as many of its own members into the event as possible so the satellites are well worth a try.

Satellites will be held every thursday at 9PM - 66Euro+rebuy AFAIK, they will be pot-limit as is the main event itself. I think they are starting tonight.

Obviously the 6000 Euro entry fee is a bit steep but some of the smaller events look interesting as you'd get to rub shoulders with some poker legends.

BTW I don't work for the Merrion.

    BLURB follows....

First Prize Euro 250,000 total prize pool Euro 730,000 (128 max entrants)

Well known players who are playing are:
Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth, Howard Lederer, John Juanda, Ram Vaswani, Tony Bloom, Dave Ulliot, Eric Seidel, Peter Costa, Dave Colclough, Erick Lindgren, Simon Trumper, Lucy Rokach, Andy Bloch, Chris Ferguson, Bruno Fitoussi, Huck Seed, Roy Brindley, John Kabbaj, Jeff Shulman, Surindar Sunar, Jan Sjlavik, Marty Wilson, Paul Testud, Freddy Deeb, Allen Cunningham, Chris Bigler, Barry Shulman, Howard Plant, Garry Bush, Allyn Jaffrey, Blair Rodman

    Event Structure
There are eight scheduled heats; each heat will consist of 16 players with two tables of eight. The winner of each heat will go through to the final. The runner-up of each heat goes through to the semi-final. All semi-finalists will play for one more seat. The final table will therefore, have nine players. The event is being televised for broadcast as a 10 episode series. Players can wear sponsors logos/motifs on their clothing. Subject to Tournament Director's approval.

    Blind Structure
    Starting stack - 10,000 chips

    Level 1 - 50 - 100 (30 mins)
    Level 2 - 100 - 200 (30 mins)
    Level 3 - 200 - 400 (30 mins)
    Level 4 - 300 - 600 (30 mins)
    Level 5 - 400 - 800 (30 mins)
    Level 6 - 600 - 1200 (30 mins)
    Level 7 - 1000 - 2000 (40 mins)
    Level 8 - 2000 - 4000 (40 mins)
    Level 9 - 3000 - 6000 (40 mins)
    Level 10 - 4000 - 8000 (40 mins)

Don't worry about the side action, the Merrion Card Casino have just announced a whole festival of tournaments and satellites for the week of the event from 10 Euro buy in up to 1,000 Euro buy in. Also, up to 16 seats have been held back for 5 super satellites for the WPC during the week of the event. (The full schedule is at the bottom of this post.)

Excellent stuff. Might try one of the sats over the next few Thursdays. Will have to get the auld Limit Holdem up to scratch as I have never played it. While I'm at I might try and get my No Limit Holdem up to scratch also!!!

Pot Limit it is! The Merrion have started handing out vouchers for this tournament as parts of the prize money - Decker got 600 Euro plus a 100 voucher for coming second last night in the Fri 25 game.

When are these 10 euro in satelite games? unless I can get the Merrion to switch my 100e ticket from Tuesday to something during the WPC I cant really afford most of those entry costs...

Pot Limit simply limits your raises to the amount currently in the pot right? there arent limits set during the hand like Limit Poker are there?

Either way I'm looking forward to this event...

    DeV.

looks like a fantastic lineup for the competition.
pot-limit means that the most you can raise is the amount that's in the pot at the time, including your call. means that it if the pot is 250 and it's raised 250, you can call the 250 and raise it another 750, cos that's how much is in the pot with your call of the original bet. not that different from no-limit considering how large a pot can get. Think there's a limit on the number of raises, though I'm not sure.
