when retrieving your P45 for a new job... how do u go about it... ive been told that its "online at the revenue site" and all the new employers have to do is retrieve it themselves?

is this true coz ive never heard of it...
    thanks

AFIK it's the employers duty to provide you with one - so just ask & leave it to them.

(I'm sure somebody will be along to point out the exact paragraph in the relevent government publication...)

Oasis (Changing Job in Ireland - Tax and PRSI):

You are entitled to a P45 form when you leave work. If you experience any difficulty in obtaining a form P45 from your employer, you should notify the tax office.

I've always had to wait quite a while for P45's when changing jobs. I don't understand the delay, if you give them your months notice, that's more than enough time to calculate all your tax details and fill in the form... :-/

I gave my last employer about 2 months notice, and STILL didn't get my p45 and holiday pay until about a month and a half after I left.

They have to give it to you on the day you leave. If they drag their heels you can go to the Revenue and have a form P43 served on them. Form P43 is a formal written demand by the revenue to supply the same details as on your P45 to them within 7 days or face prosecution.

I have had to use this before and they are like sheep when the P43 lands on the mat.

    Hey,

<edit>Found the answer to my question :) at http://www.oasis.gov.ie/employment/returning_to_work/return_to_work.html?search=form+12A&PHPSESSID=f003ebdbe5a58c311695269d05573114

    </edit>

I have a question along similar lines.

I was in a job last year from Feb to Sept. As I am a student I claimed my tax back using my P45 form that my previous employer gave me on leaving.

I am due to start a new job this June. Do I need to send my tax credits for the year form instead of my p45 to the payroll dept. of the new place??

Also which way is faster for recieving my tax credits form, if needed, sending a mail to them applying for a form using Form12A or can I walk into my local tax office and get one from them? (I don't appear to have my tax credits form for this year.)

    A.

i think its generally a case of the misc. things like benefits, health insurance, pension, expenses and commissions that are still due after your final day. usually a month is needed for everything to come through.

although, whoever thought that most HR departments are run competently has never worked in one :)
ive worked in many companies where they couldnt get your salary right every month, let alone work out filling in a P45 ina timely manner!

I've also had P45 problems with nasty ex-employers before.

Either they won't give me one or they keep filling them with bogus information.

Get onto the revenue office and they will ring them employer/send them a form forcing the employer to get their act together.

I had the same problem with a rather large IT manufacturer I used to work with,
I left in April and by August of that year I still hadnt got my P45 off them, as a result
I was on emergency tax and they made a complete balls out of it when it did arive
so they may aswell have sent me some used toilet paper for all the use it was..

Got onto the tax office a good few times as the finance person for my current
employer of the time was a complete tosser and waste of space and the go onto my
previous employer a number of times.. but to no avail.. so the tax office actually
threatened them with some sort of legal action, and bypassed the finance dept in
that company and spoke to some senior manager or someone fairly high up...

The person who I was dealing with in the tax office couldnt believe how they
constantly kept brushing her aside when she contacted them, they really didnt give
a f*ck.. she was amazed, but I have to hand it to her, she got it sorted for me.. :)
