    Hi all,

Some of you may remember my post a while back (click here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?threadid=141250&goto=nextoldest) when I was looking for some advice about asking my mother about my dad (who I never knew).

Well, strangely enough, we both asked each other about the subject simultaneously this morning, and I found out some info.

He was around for about 6 months after I was born, they were not married and he blamed my mother for the break up and not being able to see me. He moved to england afterwards and she never heard from him since. However, he never left an address or a phone number to contact him, which baffles me. My mother doesn't have any contact info for his family either. I really want to contact him, to find out why he did the things he did. To build the relationship we never had. But I'm afriad, afraid he has moved on, forgotten about me, and might reject me if he has another family.

So now I'm in the dark. I don't know where to go. I need to find him. Does anyone have any info on how to trace people? I know other people have been in situations similar to mine - how did you do it?

    Can anyone offer any insights?

I traced my birthfathers family by doing a search in google! (name and county originally from) Found an email address for a birth-cousin and also searching the phonebook i found birth-uncle etc.

Yeah, try and gleam as much information as you can frmo what your Mum can remember:
Full Name, Date of Birth (Even just the day/month), where he used to live, his parent's names, his siblings names, where he went to school/college/work.

From there you may be able to trace where he went from old family friends in the local area, or some family may even live close to where he used to, if you check the phonebook.

You be surprised, as was just said, how easy it is to find someone even remotely related to him if you supply as much info as possible. From there, it's only a few hops.

    Hi all,

Beruthiel, I've tried the various adoption associations but they mainly deal with adoption agencies and stuff like that.

Atm, I know my dads full name, former address (a flat; like 17/18 years ago) and date of birth. I've searched friends reuinted, and the web.

I was thinking of going to joyce house (General registrars office), getting his birth cert and getting an address for his parents (from cork i think), which might be an old one...

I was also thinking of getting a private investigator to help with this, has anyone had any experiences with one?

    Hello,

I should be able to trace your father if you email me privately. Sometimes people cannot be found, but usually they leave a trail which can be traced.

    Best Wishes, Ross

As far as I know, the Salvation Army can help you trace people you've lost touch with. However, I think that if they contact the person, they give them the option of refusing any further contact - so you might end up getting a letter saying "we've contacted them but they don't wish to have any contact with you".

My friend told me this a year or two ago, and there's a chance it might be wrong - but perhaps it's worth an e-mail to them?

    Best of luck to you.
