Has any of you guys come across this U.F.O before?

i was watchingthis program about them......these things fly around at the speed of light and know one really knows what they are....

there called rods because they basically look like flying sticks!..there was some amatuer filming done of it......a place in Australia...these huys were looking down into a caved in ridge......they had to slow down the camera speed to try and distinguish what they looked like....basically a rod with small hovering fins....darting and manuvering in astonishing ways......anyone heard or seen them?...suuposedly they ahve been reported all over the world?

I had forgotten about the rods, thanks for reminding me! They've apparently been spotted in space also which, if true, means they don't need an atmosphere to survive.

I saw this program on Sky a few months back. Interesting but vague. They are invisible to the naked eye, fly around at very high speed (not the speed of light though because that would hardly be caught on camera shjooting at 50 or so fps), can pass through solid matter, make U-Turns on the spot and so on.
There were a hell of a lot of them in that canyon though. What I couldn't figure out from the show was that the guys at the canyon cought these on tape and only noticed them later on when reviewing them, on poor quality amatuer camera footage. The show producers never went back to the canyon with high quality, high speed cameras that could have shed some light on it. Seemed like they didn't want to proove or dis-proove it.

Googling for "ufo rods" gives this
    http://www.ufotheatre.com/rods/rods.htm
seems they are a trick of the camera.

    you never no Jor...

they're manuverability was out of this world though huh?..

flys cant even react that quickly....and U.S tecnology is trying to base its workings around the manuverability of flies and most flies insects....trying to replicate there movements into their production of they're prototypes etc.....

    it can only be extra-terrestrial...

something blasting through solid matter at blistering speeds...a thing the length of your wrist to your elbow......
continuing on with its exact speed after flying directing through matter?

    da mind boggles! :)

Any evidence like photos, videos, verifiable accounts etc that are not hoaxes?

Not really. How do we know that they're not something that have been here longer than us? It's only recently that we've had the benefit of cameras and freeze-frame. Maybe any previous sightings have been brushed off by the person as an insect. Maybe they are insects. You've seen the footage of those canyons. There are thousands of insects milling around.

I've seen that documentary a few times now (bored, watching trash on Sky) and the evidence is sketchy at best. All of the "experts" make wild claims based on some grainy photographs and hearsay. They make guesstimates as to the size of these things from a 2D picture, without any background objects to reference them again. An impossible task, as it's very easy to fake such measurments (seen that ad for the camera, with the two girls partying, who take a fake picture for their mum?), and very easy to be fooled by perspective, particularly when there's no recorded average measurment for what these things are.

I remember seeing that program about rods on Sky . I thought it was the funniest thing ever! Ridiculous incidental music and alarmist voiceover....

Surely the naked eye would be more receptive to movement than a camera at that (or any) frame-rate?

The eye can be fooled by the brain.

If they do exist we probably perceive them as bees or insects.

I think it's a load of arse to be honest but I love watching that kind of show on TV none the less.

Rods are an interesting phenomenon, but we must be careful not to jump to conclusions here. For example, you use the word 'survive', who says that they are alive? They could be energy, or particles, or all kinds of things which we dont even have a notion about in the universe.

There is much we dont know, and speculation is good, but we should remember not to jump to conclusions or assumptions.

Originally I tended to sway onto the side of those who thought they could be caused by insects (even unknown insects) but having listened to the evidence by the video specialist on that programme I now think they are something different. What I dont know though! I dont think they have intelligence, and I dont think they are extraterrestrial either - more like some kind of particle or energy phenomenon akin to the recent discovery of particles flashing into and out of existence from seemingly nothing.

I believe that some indigenous tribes in forests thought they were 'forest spirits' but they have been filmed in urban areas as well. Any news on these sightings since? JBG

*sigh* can't believe I'm posting in this forum, but...

Yeah your eye can't see as fast as some cameras.

also if something travelled at the speed of light, you'd have bigger problems than not being able to see it https://what-if.xkcd.com/1/ even at 90% of the speed of light.

rods have since been proven to be a mixture of insects and camer shutter speeds - http://www.disclose.tv/forum/the-rods-phenomena-explained-debunked-t26244.html

Thanks for that. A good example of taking a 2004 allegedly paranormal/extraterrestrial phenomenon and looking at it 10 years later, all explained. Orbs appear to have been mostly explained away in a similar fashion.
