I'm in the middle of my 2nd year college exams, and they've just been a total disaster so far. Out of the 6 ive had so far, i've probably failed 4 of them. At this stage i know i'll be back in august, and i dont know where i'm going to find the energy to study for the 4 i have left. i'm just stressed...
    any suggestions?

You'll be a lot more stressed if you have to repeat them all in August!

If you can't muster up the motivation to study for them all, maybe focus on the two hardest subjects to get them out of the way??

you may think they have been a disaster, but you wont know until the results are posted, concentrate on the next one and forget (easier said than done) on the ones you have done, if you do have to repeat its not the end of the world just prepare for a summer of study.

Try to relax - it might not be as bad as you think....
Youreally need to put the exams you've already taken out of your mind & try to get ready for the rest - I know it's going to be hard but there's nothing you can do about the ones you've already taken but you can try to work on the ones you've left & so what if you have to come back in august to do a couple... you might be better prepared & more relaxed after have a bit of time away from collage.... Best of luck ... Hang in there;)

this is such a common occurance in 2 year, largely becuase, IMO, the novelty of college has worn off. But 3rd year gets better. Even if you only do enough to get by, and then treat yourself to a nice holiday, or a break with fun things at home.

But do enough to get by, just to get you into 3rd year

Go for a swim, go to the gym and kick the **** out of a punch bag, if you've a partner, spend a few hours in bed together.

Then get down to studying for the next exam. Take them one at a time. Try to get sleep, eat as well as you can and take an hour or two a day to do the things I suggested above. You need to manage your stress levels to get your brain working. Don't worry about the fact you'll be back in August, apparently only something like 20% of students ever make it through college without having to repeat at least once. I made a bit of a habit myself and I got through college with high honours. As ravenhead suggested, forget about the ones that are over. You can't do anything about them now so just get the head down and get the next one out of the way. Hey, you can't have done as badly on any of those papers as I did in a moment of purile stupidity. My entire exam paper was consisted of these words: "I won't waste my time or yours, see you in August - " and signed my name. DON'T DO IT! It was funny for all of about a day, after the exams had finished I had another look at the paper and realised that had I taken a shot at it, I might just have passed.

Try to relax, take a few deep breaths and you'll be fine. Physical excercise of any kind will help: even if it's just taking half an hour to take a walk around campus.

Good luck with the rest of them!

that was a good previous point about second year being the hardest. I definitely felt that was the case when I was an undergrad. First year had been an extension of secondary school and I just coasted along. Second year was the wake up call and the big change in attitude. Afterwards, 3rd and 4th year, while hard, were easier to cope with than 2nd year.

Just concentrate on what's coming up. Don't get bogged down by whats been done.

My class and I used to go out on the piss just about after every exam. Ours tended to be well spaced time wise so we could do this. But it was the absolute best stress relief.

I wish I could go on the piss after every exam! Stupid timetable, i had 5 exams in 5 days at the start, then 10 days off (including a blissful saturday afternoon of ben and jerrys, caffeine and metroid prime), then 10 days off and now 5 in 7 days. I'm thinking take a few weeks off when I finish (next tuesday), then start studying again once the results come out. Got a lot more TKD to do over the summer too, hoping to get red belt in august :ninja: unfortunately no training this week - no punchbags:mad:

Very, very true. I recall a 2nd Geology exam I was in no way prepared for. I had no decent notes to refer to, had no idea of the exam format, and hadn't really studied at all. I wrote down what little bits I thought were relevant, and, if i remember correctly, left with more than an hour to go. I was sure I had screwed up in a truly epic fashion.

Turned out I came within 3% of passing it, and my result in the term before it brought it up to a comfortable b or c.

Just do what you can, and forget about it until the results come along. Stress won't help, so don't stress! Easier said than done, I'm sure, but at least give it a go.

And if the worst does happen, and you have to repeat a couple of them, you'll still have a reasonable idea of what to expect.

I'm the king of college repeats. It's not so bad. It's like living on the edge.....

relax and you'll be fine. 6 is nothing...

No stress about it, and don't talk to the muppets who want to post mortem every question after - once you're out it's over, concentrate on the next one.

I used to live on the edge too, and surprised myself by passing some that I was dead cert I failed (like Accountancy - 42% rather than the 5% I predicted :))

    You'll be grand.

Hey dude, im in exactly the same boat, im a 2yr student, basically ive passed 3, failed 3 (i know ive failed em, i didnt even write any answers for one of em) but its really not that bad, its kinda my fault for not goin in, and if I did third year now 'd be screwed cause im too far behind so repeating those 3 subjects next year would be a very good thing to do, plus its gonna mean an easy year :)

You selfish bastard. Have you any idea how much it costs to repeat? No, of course ya don't, why would you need to? It's not like mummy and daddy can't afford it, is it?

2nd math science ucd iirc or am i completely wrong?

so that means maths physics, maths and stats.

didn't do maths or stats in second year but did maths physics, maths physics are generally quite easy markers (or so the rumour goes) so perhaps don't worry about these too much. i know the mechanics has changed since i did the course danny birmingham used to do it and it was a tough course i have to say but he came into his own when he did special relativity. but hopefully the methods A and the computational physics will go ok for ya and weren't as bad as you think. i didn't like the computational physics course it self as i can't program but the exam papers only have so many questions to pick from it seems and you can just keep writing them out and writing them out.

i doubt you'll have failed as many as you think and even if you do, not to worry there is always august tis not the end of the world.

i'm now off to study for my third exam in a row the first two went ok but i'm keeping crappy hours and now i've got to take on a 24 course this evening and before 11.15 tomorrow morning.

it could be worse last night i had a 40 lecture course to do and i started at the same time and had the exam at 9 today.

relax they never go as bad as you think my marks last year definetly showed that

    best of luck with em

    data

Em lets see, in my college its 350 per subject, x3 is 1050, plus 670 registration, thats 1720 euro, which im paying myself out of my job, cause I wouldnt expect my parents to pay for my mistake. I have personal reasons and an injury I suffered this year that make me miss loads of college, so I kinda do need to repeat the year to catch up on those 3 subjects, otherwise i'd be screwed in third year! Im just trying to look at the bright side of it. You might try askin before assumin im some spoilt little rich kid

Jesus your all very judgemental today! Yes it was my fault ive failed this year, but there were circumstances, a load of bad stuff happened to me which made me depressed and give up on college for a while (which was my mistake and I probably would have passed this year had I not have been so stupid), then I was in a bad motorbike accident which cost me a few weeks off college (which I had no control over), i was just trying to have a positive outlook and be happy about my situation and accept it instead of freaking out about what I cant change and posting on P.I to ask advice on it.

Failing exams is usually due to lack of motivation... not lack of IQ.

Firgure out how badly you want to pass, if at all, and if you decide you want these exams.. stop bitching to us on boards.ie and do some work.

And who's going to be feeding, clothing and putting a roof over your head during the year? Everyone has personal issues, every year. (why do you think this forum is so busy) I don't see them as an excuse for not getting on with the rest of your life. Sorry if I'm being overly harsh, I just think you're a little too gleefull about the fact you're wasting your parents, the taxpayer's and your own money.
