I was at college yesterday, and I met this guy who worked at Drimnagh Castle. What got my attention was that there is the ghost of a young woman, whos husband to be was murdered because of a terrible family feud. I can't remember all the details, but it's said that the woman haunts the castle. I was thinking of going to visit the castle to talk to the proprietor. Think it would be an interesting place to go for one of our next trips?

Yes, I went to the school beside the actual fortification, and heard all the rumours of the castle. The womans name was Eleanora (there is a pub nearby named after her) and she is said to have committed suicide after her hubby was killed. I went through the castle once, a long time ago. Didnt notice any paranormal aura, but I'm not really sensitive to such things. Judging by the stories I have heard, I'd take the haunting with a pinch of salt tbh. I havent heard any genuine recants (from credible people) at all.

There used to be a changing room for the football team inside the main part of what used to be a festival hall or something (not too knowlegeable on norman fortification, so could have been a stable for all I know! lol. You can see murder holes (where invaders got trapped and killed by boiling oil etc..) and several other parts of the original castle which are worth a visit. Also, the whole lot was renovated in recent years so it could look even better!

i went to that school too for many years..and spent too many times feeding those god damn peacocks and exotic birds that the brothers used to keep in the grounds of the castle(before restoration project took place)i would consider myself quite a sensitive person and never once felt anything of concern..and had often stayed till dark too after playing gaa and nothing so....pinch of salt i think

im from the general area, another story goes that eleanora was raped by Cromwell who stayed in the castle at the time..his troops were based in the nearby area, hence cromwells fort road. This apparently all happened during the penal times. Apparently she threw herself off the turrets, hence the restaurant name in the local pub which also bears her name. There was also apparently a tunnel which lead from the castle up to the hills in ballymount, as the familiy who owned/lived in the castle were sypathisers with the catholics.
Although I have to say I used to frequent the castle in my youth at night time whilst parktaking in some...ah I used to knacker drink there until all hours of the morning and never seen a thing. The geese/ducks used to freak me out though :)

Yeah i went to the cshool myself and like the everyone else I've never experienced anything.

I think they're trying to play up the whole 'haunted' thing cos the story they told us was that her husband was killed in some battle (or something similar) and she died sitting on his grave from a broken heart and that she still walks the halls of the castle crying about him.

The story a friend of mine remembers was that she was in love with some Irish bloke and the da didn't approve (being english and all. And yeah I know bug said that they were catholic sympathisers but that's what they told him ) so locked her up in the castle. She used to go up to the turrets to try and see him. She found out a bit later that he was killed so took a jump.

Although I do remember the principal trying to convince us that the ducks were 'fighting' that was kinda scary.

I went there and everybody know someone who had an older brother who say a ghost sort of thing.

Then again most of the (Christian) brothers were so old they could of passed as ghosts.
