The second film is crap. Well compared to th first film it is. Its just a mindless action flick that looks a little cheap. Worth seeing though for the unintentionally funny rugby bit.

The first one was great, when it came out initially. Although I'd say the shock value has worn off if I were to watch it now. I managed to catch it during its initial run in the IFC, was it shown in any other Irish cinemas?.

As for the second...god, its really really really bad, I can't emphasise how terrible it is. BRII starts out with a promising storyline, but then it tries desperatly to be a film with a 'message' (what that message is is anyones guess).

The whole thing just degenerates into a confused mess, plot gets flung out the window early on, bugger all character development. All in all a recipe for a complete turkey.

And its a real pity too, because this was Kinji Fukasaku's swan song; he died during production and left it up to his son to complete the film.

Have to agree with the previous two posts about the second one. It really is atrocious. The so-called message it try’s to deliver is a joke, never mind the brutal scene with the teacher doing a rugby touchdown/try format. Now that was laughable.

First instalment is immense.

ps There is a special edition of the first one, but apart from easier to read sub-titling and a few more added "background storyline type" scenes (basketball mainly) I wouldnt bother too much with it.

Second as everyone says is a big pile of smelly poo. Shame casue it had potential.

yea what a deadly film. reminded me a lot of another japanese film called ichi the kkiller. mainly cause they are apanese and its damn violent.

I beleive that there is also a different ending in the special edition. I might buy it when i finish for the summer.
