I fear this is a troll. If you are quoting Jesus in your signature, surely you know the answer to this question already?

The bible says that you can only have sex with a human, of the opposite sex, who you have married.
So yes homosexuality is a sin. Yes it is hypocritical that the church will marry people who were divorcced. And people who had sex before marriage. If they'll allow these they should allow homosexuality or beastiality for that matter. There's double standards in christian organisations. But hey, C'est la vie.

Umm, just to be particular, I thought the stance was that homosexual acts were a sin but being homosexual is not a sin in and of itself (only to practice it)?
Also subtle allusions trying to tie homosexuality and beastiality are quite vile. Could you refrain from that sort of response?

homosexuality being a sin is basically based on a single line (afaik) in the bible (and my ma teaches r.e.)

"a man should not lie with another man"

pretty crap basis for denouncing a whole way of life is ya ask me.

its classed as wrong by the papacy but the majority of priests (especially the younger ones) have different personal opinions so they hold onto them as opposed to adopting those of their superiors

yes but the bible also says "if thine right eye offends thee, pluck it out"

If we took everything in the bible to heart, well we'd be in trouble...

I dont think the church have a right to judge anyone to be honest, they are the biggest sinners of the lot of us, and then they do their best to lie and cover it up.

I'm not meaning to annoy anyone or cause offence, just my honest opinion.

I don't think it needs to be an opinion.

There is enough evidence to prove the church to be one of the greatest abusers of human rights of all time.

    Present it.

Some of christians strict laws change with the pope.
Perhaps some day, Priests will be allowed to marry. Perhaps some day christianity, will not denounce love, between any two people.

Then again, maybe armageddon will arrive first.

    Hmmmm...where do I start....

    The Inquisition,

The Rapes perpitrated by the clergy and covered up by the church???

I don't think this needs to be proven at this stage....

In fact, you go to Tomas Sweeney who spent 22 days on hunger strike outside the Dail and ask him to prove it to you.

The inquisition was around at a time when almost all men & women everywhere were involved in some sort of evil. Its not called the Dark Ages for nothing.

The rapes & alleged rapes perpitrated by the clergy represent a few people. And while totally inexcusable, I can understand why the church did cover up said abuses.

While not knowing who Tomas Sweeney is or how he is relevant to this discussion, I'll go completely out on a limb and say he was protesting the Governments involvements in horrific sex crimes perpitrated by the church.

Such as appointing the church to several positions where they could commit these crimes. Covering up these crimes, indeed, along with the church and in many cases, accepting that there was something wrong, but not doing anything about it.

Keep your opinions to yourself. Thats not really the question is it. Your narrow minded & biggoted commits arent really what the question is asking. Its asking does the church believe homosexuality is a sin and perhaps discuss why.

Although it may be a troll, it really is a fundamental basis for change within the entire religious community.

For the record, I'm not gay and I'm not religious.

The dark ages ran from about 500AD - 1000AD, the inquisition ran from 1478-1834, but the main activity with Torquemada ran in thr 1480s. Hardly the dark ages.

Tomas Sweeney is a man who was raped by members of the clergy as child. He spent 22 days on hunger strike recently outside the Dail protesting at this.

The catholic church has commited human rights crimes through the years up until this century.

They show complete hypocrasy in even having the audacity to infer homosexuality is a sin.

In fact according to their Bible, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone" they should all stop preaching right now.

They need to purge themselves of the evil they have perpitrated before they even start looking at stones.

This has gone way off-topic. Why the heck are people having a historical discussion about the state of the world in the Dark Ages?

Furthermore, slagging off the Christian position on this, particularly by building a straw man about of theologically unsound hogwash, is a bit much.

Thread locked. If someone wants to ask the question again, fair enough: I don't mind a new thread being started. If anyone wants to seriously discuss this issue, that's fine too. But if I see any more off-topic ramblings, or people taking this as an excuse to throw insults at Christians or homosexual people*, then the people involved will be banned for a week.

    * I'm not implying these groups are mutually exclusive, before people start getting wound up about it.
