    Battle Royale
It's the not too distant future and teen crime is spiralling out of control - prompting the Japanese government to take drastic action. 42 school children are deliberately dropped on a remote Pacific island, given weapons (not of mass destruction, so calm down George) and left to annihilate each other in a very real death match. The ultimate winner – and there can be only one - is then deemed fit to return to Japanese society. Violent and humourous, Battle Royale is a thought provoking blood bath. Stars Takeshi Kitano and Taro Yamamoto. Directed by Kinji Fukasaku. 11pm. C4.

It's quite enjoyable, in a daft way, although not half as good as some folks make it out to be. Still worth a watch though and it's something the government should look into for dealing with the skanger threat.

I enjoyed it alright - the extended version is a bit slow at places though.

Maybe it was just me but I didn't think it was all that violent really.

Could be the auld desensitisation kicking in.

This film is quite good seen it allot of times and still enjoy it. I would agree what a previous poster above said about it being allot better than its counterpart the sequel.

The sequel is very badly written the action scenes are somewhat bleak and the tiny elements of melodramatic moments sickening.

However best part has to be
Where they are all in the shed then the psycho fellow throws in a head with a nade in it :) quality

Have to say if you like the first installment of this then check out a film called "City of God"

    The sequel is terrible.

Save for a fairly enjoyable 'Saving Private Ryan' rip-off near the beginning, it's long and boring.

Propz for starting the film with two skyscrapers being blown up and giving the US the finger throughout though.

the film is totally and completley over rated, if it was a western film people would complain how weak the story is, and only because its asian it seems all cultured etc.
