Hardware picture adjustment

Is there any sort of hardware that can adjust the gain/brightness/contrast of a video picture?

The reason I need this because my Hauppauge WinTV-PVR 350 video capture card causes vid caps from TV3 and TG4 to appear overexposed with bright areas washed out.

Some examples of what I'm talking about can be seen here (they're about 150KB each).

So to overcome this problem I obviously need something to darken the picture before it gets to the capture card. What do I need?

Can you not adjust the brightness controls of the card it's self, seems a touch odd.

Yes, you can adjust the brightness for the card itself, but the pictures still end up looking over-exposed. The problem lies with the card itself - it just can't handle bright images...
