WMP 9 won't play CD's

This is probably something to do with my hardware but I can't play CD's with WMP using digital playback. I have to use the old CD Player (which I hate). The solution in help is to go into options and select properties of the CD-ROM. However, i can't do this. The dialog appears and disappears very quickly (like a flash).…
