I'm planning to buy a new hard drive for my laptop - for performance

    I'm stuck between

    7200RPM / 16MB Buffer / 50GB

    and

    7200RPM / 8MB Buffer / 60GB

I was interested if the additional 8MB buffer will make a difference? and make up for those 10GBs in 8MB buffer drive

does the additional buffer make a difference?

Do you have a link to that hdd drive, I've never heard of a 16mb buffer on a laptop hdd.

As for your question the 16mb buffer would offer better preformance so I would choose that over 10Gb's

    Thanks JoePC

First I heard of 16Mb cache on a hard drive myself. Could you quote the prices between the two? Personally I'd got for the one with the 8Mb of cache because Id reckon the performance increase due to the the extra cache wouldnt be enough against a extra 10Gb of disk space.

As it says on the website you linked "8MB is considered extreme for most desktop drives!" so where does 16Mb come in? Get the 60Gb 7200rpm 8Mb cache one. The more I look at it the more I think the 16Mb is a gimmick.
